I am a direct descendant of the Dougherty's who had to leave Ireland because how bad it had got there for them. Yes. I absolutely want to know the correct history of my people.

My great grand parents emigrated because they were starving and had no future.

It relates to why my ancestors might have immigrated to Canada, truth needs to be out there, I'm sick of how the Irish are viewed.

Learning about this time period and the unfortunate mystery that surrounds it has consumed me. I have tried so hard, with little success, to learn about my own family in Ireland during this time. Sadly, I realize that it is because their records (marriages, births, deaths) weren't worthy of being recorded. This is a truth that must be shared. History has proven its ability to repeat itself.

People should know the truth! Many of our families would still be in Ireland today if it weren't for the actions of the those who hated the Irish and Irish ways long ago!

When there was a sign of blight on the potato crop in 1845, the British authorities sent over a boatload of Scientists. After which the adopted a 'wait and see' attitude. It is never mentioned but the Turkish Sultan sent money to help in Ireland. The vicars, priests and some private people did their best.

I am acquainted with the registers.  They can be accessed at National Library of Ireland, Kildare Street Dublin.  Seamus MacManus, famous Donegal writer early 1900s, in his tome (it is big) in the Famine chapter writes that at that time there were schooners who exited the country with lots of people who were never counted.

Because no one has a right to do what was done to my ancestors. Mothers watching their babies die and knowing there was food go leor. Fathers walking miles on stick-thin legs looking for work and smelling death along the way. The English-Elite living like they always did, not giving a sugar for the Native Irish whose land they were living on. Letters wriiten saying my ancesors deserved the awful hunger gnagging at their bellies, sucking the life from them because of their personalities and the way yhey lived. The English- Elite decide to wipe the smile off the faces of the Irish and the life from their bodies.
