For far too long Ireland has been telling the world about a potato famine in which millions of Irish people died, But this was more than a potato blight, This was a prepared genocide by the English crown to wipe the Irish people of the face of the Earth. The truth must be told and the world must then judge those who carried out this miscarridge of justice

I wish to honor and respect all my great grandparents who suffered and almost died escaping the ravages of the Great Hunger. My great great grandparents died during this starvation period. There were many more.

It's about friggin'time

The loss of so many Irish citizens should be referred to as "The Great Hunger." What an unnecessary tragedy!

"The truth will shine a light on the period as a colony of that terrible empire, and the injustice of British policy in Ireland at that time .

The truth must be told. No longer should generations on either side of the Irish Sea grow up believing there was insufficient food in that most fertile of lands. No longer should the twisted tales be accepted as truth. Regardless of origin, race, creed or colour, we must always base our views of the world on truth. Nothing less can ever suffice.

A long over due correction of the facts.
This should have been dealt with back in 1922 at the set up of the state, But then again nothing surprises me.

I have put this post on my timeline to show the people here in England what happened in Ireland three centuries ago.

On this day it is time to spread the TRUTH about the Famine and that is not the version the Brits tell. Who better to tell that truth than Americans of Irish descent, as we are the ones who know it best. The truth has been handed down in our families and kept very much alive.

Against all odds our grandmothers and great grandmothers survived and risked everything to make a better life for us. Their great pain and struggle should never be forgotten. The British Empire's hand in the starving out of the Irish people ranks among the greatest crimes against humanity.

Never forget!

Although my Father was an Irish Roman Catholic from Dublin, I really knew very little of the "famine" until I visited the Cobh museum and saw the horrendous conditions in which poor souls had to "emigrate" and was told of the graveyards where thousands of children are buried. In Eire, I felt such a deep sadness, as though the very ground was mourning and was moved to tears so many times. That this beautiful land and its people should be robbed of the truth is an outrage...I was never taught at school that it was more than a "famine" - and I am sure the numbers of people who died was never discussed - Millions of people deliberately starved = genocide, not famine. Thank God the Irish people are so spirited and have spread their culture and strength of character all over the globe...God Bless Eire...and her people. everywhere.

It is wrong to educate us like this! Living in the United States, I truly had no idea it was more than the potato famine, but the British selling my ancestors food. I want the truth! I want the British to admit they wrong, and get out of Ireland!

it is about time that the Truths of th Past are made known to the World. Geniocidal treatment continued under England for Generations of Irish People. WE ALSO need to address THE SLAVE TRADE FROM IRELAND IRISH SLAVES were abducted, Sold and their descendants live throughout The West Indies AND The U.S.A today The WORLD should know RHE TRUTH!

Do not know what to say to make the past better - only that no country should be allowed to do these things to another country. The people that did this are long gone now, but if we do not learn from history, then we are doomed to repeat it! Have read that many times and believe it!
