Having a record myself I feel for this poor girl. Luckily I got to complete college but I can not find a job due to a stupid mistake I made 9 years ago. I'm a single parent struggling to make ends meet. Highly qualified and SLC took a job off me after finding out and refused to supply documents for reasoning behind it. Hope you get justice Kim. The system sucks and we are fighting a losing battle but I'm with you!

I think people should have a chance as they have already been punished I had previous conviction s mainly due to being an alcoholic I went into recovery I also did a social care course at college I then worked as a carer do nearly 30 years I got a chance to put something back into life I hope she is allowed to finish the coursey

My dad showed me this petition after me saying how I wanted to take my similar story further. It's been 8years since I was last in trouble by the police. I have a few charges for breech of the peace and public order acts when I was a teenager, however I also have theft and causing danger to users on the road. The story behind this is I took a cone from tesco car park and flung it on a road under the influence of alcohol. This has done me over big time. After achieving top marks on my btec health and social care and also gaining 80% with the distinctions on an access to health proffesions - when I apply for uni the door gets slammed in my face. I am a mother of 2 now trying my hardest but feel as soon as I declare these convictions they use an excuse that my grades are the reason I get unsuccessful 4years in a row. The true extent of this convictions are truly catching up with me now. Good luck

i also have a criminal record and have been wrongly pre-judged by a lot of people - I have been hurt and humiliated so many times and its taken a great strength to carry on

I work in a prison and I see my clients return again and again because the system will not recognise that when a conviction is spent, it is spent. I have clients in exactly the same position, where they are refused education, employment and training, on the basis of offences from 15+ years ago!!
This is unacceptable and the law should be changed, so past convictions are not dragged up, well past the spent date. These people have served their time, they should not have to keep serving for the rest of their lives. Where is the incentive to try to move on?

I work with vulnerable adults in the community who face barriers due to their offending background. I also have a criminal record and all I ever wanted to do is work in my community supporting vulnerable adults. Those barriers are very fearful and frustrating but if you are passionate and you have truly moved on, why shouldn't everyone get a second chance. Its definitely about proving yourself and building trust, it took me a long time to get where I am today but I am now doing the work I love. So don't give up!!!
