We live in Wentworth Park Krugersdorp and the smoke in the area coming from the landfill site is horrific. Air that we breathe in is literally burning our chests. Where we have to tape windows and any air holes in our homes shut and cover all doors. But the air to breathe in is still very bad you wake up durning the night cause of the horrible smell and then you have severe chest and throat pain due to this. The pollution resulting from the burning waste dump was severe and instrumental to lung problems we experienced at the time having just had series of cold fires before that.
There appeared to be no urgency in putting the fire out and to my knowledge the municipality have even to date not identified and shared the knowledge of what toxins were included in that dense smoke cloud coming from the waste dump fire for weeks on end. It has not been made clear how this will be prevented and even dealt with efficiently in future.
