I'm signing this petition because the sacraments are essential. I also fear that many more of the faithful will be lost as they go weeks without attending mass.Tyler McAtee (Apache Junction, 2020-11-12)

Please, we need our churches to stay open even if a lockdown might be imposed in the future. I'm 73 years old. Being able to attend mass is far more important than worrying about getting sick in these difficult times we're going through. We plead with you to stay strong in front of the enemy, don't concede. Our churches need to stay open now more than ever. Thank you!Catherine Knoell (Phoenix, 2020-11-12)

We are begging you Bishop on behalf of our family to please not take away our sacraments again. We need our church And good priests right now more than ever. We need to show the world we are not afraid and that we fully trust that God has this. As parents of 3 children, we realize the profound negative effects of not being able to go to church and if I must add wearing these horrible masks. It’s awfully confusing the message we are sending. Thank you for being our fearless shepherd.Meghan & Ernie Baillargeon (Cave Creek, 2020-11-12)

The demonic has infiltrated so many aspects of earth and is making its way into our Church. Let it be our free choice to attend Mass or not attend Mass. Let no one dictate how a Mass is conducted besides our Lord. Free to join others as you wish. Sing, praise, sit with, interact with as a person wishes. If a person does not want to participate, then that is their choice. If there are Priests that want a lockdown/restricted church, then let these Parishes be known so that the laity can freely chose where they are comfortable to attend.

Jesus is essential, and don’t let anyone tell us He isn’t. A virus or politics should not stop us from our holy obligation. Denying people of faith their place of worship is unconstitutional to say the least. I want to see our bishops stand up for the truth, and fight for us, the flock. We shall be silent no more! Viva Christo Rey!Nicole Camacho (Waddell, 2020-11-12)

Our Faith, Liturgy, Sacraments are ESSENTIAL. Especially during this time. What message to we send to the world when we declare our Sacraments non-essential? Lord, have mercy on us. Thank you for leading our flock and praying for our Bishops and priests.St Mary Magdalene parish.

The sacraments, and God's grace, are more important than anything worldly or material. The Church exists to prepare us for death, not to try to prevent our death at all costs. Thank you for putting souls first.Leila Miller (Phoenix, 2020-11-12)

I entered the Church only last year and the shutdown that began March 17th was heartbreaking and faith shaking. After all I had given up to be in Christ's true Church, after less than a year I was shut out in the cold left totally abandoned. I was, and still am, willing to face martyrdom to worship, and commune physically with, the One True God, as many saints throughout history have. How much less should we, of little faith, let a virus stop us? In the words of our Lord, "do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell."Kristina Catherine Wellz (Phoenix, 2020-11-12)

I know it is important to protect those in your flock that are "at risk", and I also appreciate your desire for obedience to public authority.I pray you will consider the effectiveness of the first lockdown and the impact it had on the flock. This was a very divisive issue that was harmful to many.
If there is a second lockdown, I think this is the opportunity for the Church to lead.

Your Excellency Bishop Olmsted, I am signing this petition to share with you what the lock-down does to my spiritual life. It takes away my spiritual growth of the Liturgy along with receiving the Holy Eucharist. this my blood line, medicine and my life. Please do not allow another locking of the doors to our church. Sincerely, Loretta Winn.Loretta Winn (Phoenix, 2020-11-12)

Dear Bishop Olmsted,As a physician, it is interesting to see how the facts about corona virus are bent. Even though cases are going up, the mortality rate is staying constant, as we are better at treating this. Furthermore, keeping churches open, allows those at low risk, (basically relatively healthy folks under 70), to attend, while those who are concerned can always continue to watch online. Our country is in a moral crisis, we need the mass and sacraments more than ever. A disease, that affects a thin slice of the population, should not prevent us from preparing ourselves for eternity. Thank you for your consideration. Kenneth Osorio MD

Dearest And Beloved Bishop Olmsted, I beg you to keep our churches open when I'm sure you are receiving great pressure to close them again. Churches in the diocese have been going to great lengths to clean and maintain distances. As far as I am aware churches here have not been the sources of any outbreaks. Quite frankly, Mass and the sacraments are often all that's keeping some people from despair during these trying times.Ann Marie Schimberg (Prescott, 2020-11-12)

Bishop Thomas,We have worked together continuously for the glory of God and sanctity of ourselves and the community. We have spoken about your book, Into the Breach, a topic I've taken so much inspiration from for my films. My son, Fulton, was born August 10th this year, and I ultimately baptized him in the NICU as no priest arrived. This covid is not worst than the measures we are taking to keep people safe. My friend, people are dying, spiritually, and we are angry and frustrated at the Church, because we feel alone. We look for leadership, and find none. Bishop Thomas, I respected you in all those moments we interacted and all those times you were out there with us on the streets, before Planned Parenthood, talking with my mom, and blessing my siblings and I. But now we find ourselves in this breach, alone. I've entered. I'm here. Where are you?
Sincerely,
Paul R. Lasota

Please do not deny the Sacraments to your children! This is a virus with a 99% recovery rate - people are not just dropping dead everywhere. Our souls, our children's souls are AT STAKE. Cases does not equal Deaths. But denying the sacraments will most definitely cause the death of souls - we need the graces, show us that Mass is important!! Our families need the graces! Please keep the churches open. BE BRAVE. LEAD US INTO THE BREACH.Angela Riley (Cave Creek, 2020-11-12)

Lockdowns do not stop the virus. They just defer its effects and impact until a later date. It is not the Diocese's responsibility to determine my safety and health but mine. The diocese can continue the absolution of the obligation but MUST permit those who are healthy to continue to have access to Holy Mass and Sacraments.Justin Reany (Phoenix, 2020-11-15)

I’m signing because I agree with all that is written in this letter.I also feel that all those who feel vulnerable should wear masks or stay home. Those who are well should not be forced to wear masks.

We need our priests and the sacraments! We managed without lockdowns with the other viruses. The 'changing' numbers do not give usconfidence that we are being told the truth. And their cure (lockdowns) hurt more than they help us.
