It is not necessary to have in Newbury!!

Sophie King (Reading, 2020-07-10)

#31

This is not good for Newbury or its people. Say no.

Jonathan Sayers (Thatcham, 2020-07-10)

#36

The market place is not pleasant when it is dark, I cycle and I’m always wary when cycling through the square. This type of establishment will not be conducive to a safe environment

Melanie Readings (Thatcham, 2020-07-10)

Gambling can be addictive. A 24 hour licence would be dangerous and irresponsible. I fear the temptation would be too great for some to handle.
Pubs have a licence to serve alcohol within permitted hours during their opening to reduce encouragement to drink 24hours a day. I believe betting shops should adhere to the same restrictions.
You can drink at home, you can gamble at home. It would be very foolish to proceed down this road in my opinion.

Charlie Arnold (Newbury, 2020-07-12)

#50

it's encouraging addiction !

Norma Peacock (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#52

Is too many of them, need to stop this ✋.

Marius Bejan (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#53

Parasitic business worst type if we have any standards and oppose any business this is worth opposing.

Luke Mosse (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

Problem gambling costs the government over £1.6 billion a year. There are estimated 395,000 problem gamblers in the UK with 1.8 million at risk. National Audit Office report published 20th Feb 2020.

Ruth Waddington (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#60

Anti social problems and encouraging gambling. Gambling companies signing a code of ethics is like using a plaster on a broken leg and is nothing more than lip service

Adam Hurdus (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#61

I agree

Andy Littler (Reading, 2020-07-14)

#62

I really think there is enough gambling , and for the additional disruptive influences

Jennifer Sanmogan (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#71

I unhappy that is is even being considered acceptable to have a 24 hour gambling establishment in our market town. It will encourage young and old to get into serious debt, which then has a knock on affect to homelessness, poverty, mental health and addiction in many forms.

Gillian Grace (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#76

Newbury doesn’t need this, it will ruin the town.

Sean Ayre (Bristol, 2020-07-14)

#77

This would be an awful addition to our market square and is not remotely in keeping with the rest of the town. A 24hr slot machine and bingo centre would only attract the wrong type of people to an area of the town that is already struggling with growing numbers of homeless people and would inevitably lead to trouble after dark.

Charles New (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#84

This “shop” is not required on any level

Nicholas Atkins (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#87

I do not want this in the town centre - I believe it will encourage crime and bring undesirables into the town centre. I also think gambling is a serious addiction that cripples people financially.

Shelley Valdivia (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#90

It will be a blight on our beautiful market place

Denise Brabon (Newbury, 2020-07-14)

#102

Don’t turn Newbury into a gambling den.

Michael Davies (Thatcham, 2020-07-14)

#104

Gambling addiction causes untold misery to individuals and their families. The government took steps to help this by banning certain machines in bookmakers. This would be a backwards step to encourage limitless 24 hour gambling. There are enough betting shops in Newbury already.

Melody Arnold (Berkshire, 2020-07-14)

#107

Not inkeeping with the current atmosphere and style of the marketplace

Douglas Whelan (Newbury, 2020-07-15)

#109

This is not appropriate for the town centre

Eddi Newick (Thatcham, 2020-07-15)

#111

This is not a business that supports the young. It is a business which offers the potential for addiction.

Jacqueline Smith (Thatcham, 2020-07-15)

#120

The market place isn’t the right location for this type of business. It won’t help Newbury attract more visitors and will probably deter them.

Jackie Brooker (Newbury, 2020-07-15)

#126

I disagree with a 24hr gambling establishment in the marketplace.

Sue Powers (Newbury, 2020-07-15)

#128

My Daughter is the General Manager of The Elephant at the Market in Newbury town centre.

Andrea Avrili (Weston-super-Mare, 2020-07-15)

#130

Gambling is a massive problem why would a caring council promote it?

Flaminia Hughes (Newbury, 2020-07-15)

#131

I really do not feel that the town and especially the market place would benefit from this. The current noise levels from venues opening past midnight is already at unbearable levels. With already high volumes of foot traffic in the early morning hours this will only add to this. Surely the surrounding neighbours, both homeowners and businesses deserve some peace at night.

Alan Woolgar (Reading, 2020-07-15)

#137

It is not a suitable business for the area.

Andrew Hewitt (Newbury, 2020-07-15)

#141

It was cause noise 24 hrs. I will cause people with a gambling addition to have problems losing more money 24 hours.

Rich Carlyon (Thatcham, 2020-07-15)

#143

This is inappropriate for the location and has a number social and environmental issues associated with it. Not to mention the harm caused by gambling.

Jonathan Greenwood (Newbury, 2020-07-15)

#144

I’m signing this petition because I am opposed to the introduction of another negative influence in our town

Samantha Knight (Thatcham, 2020-07-16)

#146

Gambling hurts and affects so many more than just the person who gambles.

Julia Rixon (Newbury, 2020-07-16)

#148

I care about the place I live

David Manson (Thatcham, 2020-07-16)

#152

There are enough gambling establishments in Newbury and this will negatively impact the most vulnerable who succumb to temptation that they cannot afford

Cassandra Thorpe (Newbury, 2020-07-16)

#154

I am signing this because we do not need gambling in Newbury

Annie Speller (Newbury, 2020-07-17)

#157

I think this will be detrimental to our town and local residents and businesses will be affected by increased noise and anti social behaviour

Kate Stratton (Newbury, 2020-07-18)

#158

I totally agree, we don't need more gambling in our town.

Andrea England (NEWBURY, 2020-07-18)

#159

I live in Newbury and strongly believe that this would be detrimental to Newbury residents on many levels.

Emma Seymour (Newbury, 2020-07-19)

#164

An establishment of this kind will be a risk to our business nearby.

Julie Morris (Newbury, 2020-07-28)

#168

Newbury just doesn't need all night gambling!

Rob White (Goring on Thames, 2020-07-31)

#170

It will encourage gambling and addiction in vulnerable young people .
It’s out of character for a market town

J Broughton (Newbury, 2020-08-11)

#172

It’s just madness.
For one the police are going to have to work a lot harder with that there that’s for shore.... People finishing the pub then go into there!!!! Then all outside smoking, chatting, fighting, while us neighbours who have to sleep, work and walk past late at night or whatever it’s just wrong .
When others are thinking it’s not a problem would they want to live here with it under you ,....

Joseph Cripps (Newbury, 2020-08-11)

#173

The wrong place for 24 hour gambling.

Colette Hammond (NEWBURY, 2020-08-11)

#175

We should not be encouraging gambling on slots. And definitely not 24hrs.
This will have a detrimental impact on not just the local area but the wider community in general.

Matthew Lawson (Newbury, 2020-08-12)

#179

I object strongly to the 24 hour Gambling Shop

Amanda Evans (Newbury, 2021-02-10)

#182

All the reasons above, but also the fact that this effects people who are not in a position to be losing money. Gambling is a no win situation, except for the owner of the gambling shop.

Michael Stanton-Jones (Newbury, 2021-02-15)
