If the DES funded schools correctly no school would need to turn any student away. Proper investment in education now!

Minority religions have to travel distances to attend the schools of their faith, in many cases boarding in order to attend. The choice to do so should not be taken away.

I support the right of parents to choose a school whether or not it is faith based. Competition of independent school systems is a key tool for avoiding imposition of undue conformity.

#65

I believe faith in schools is important

(Edenderry, 2017-04-09)

#69

It is important to have a choice. It is my choice to send my children to a Church of Ireland school because I am Church of Ireland and so are my children. Why should someone of no faith, dictate to me where my children go to school. Also, it's funny when people say to me they have no faith but when I ask about when they die, they say they will have a funeral in a Church! Go figure.

Parents should have the right of choice for there children

(Kildalkey, 2017-04-09)

#88

So parents may choose to send their children to a parish faith based school and not be forced to enrol their children for a school that's the nearest to them . Many families live outside the boundaries of their parish church and school . Why should they lose that right of choice fir their children to attend school within a community they are very much part of at parish level .

(Dublin, 2017-04-10)

I think that the parents of any child should be able to choose the school of whichever faith they choose without having boundaries imposed on them. This particular legislation would remove choice on where I can send my children to school.

Many families and children are living in the Christian Faith and taking that choice away is like taking away their right to worship The Lord and take God out of the picture.

Delgany National School is a minority faith based school with a Church of Ireland ethos. It has grown and flourished through the years and this is largely due to the strong backing and connection it has with Christ Church of Ireland Church in Delgany. As such it has become a much sought after school to send children in the community to and has a long waiting list each year.

The proposed changes would have a detrimental effect on the shape and character of the school. The ethos would change dramatically. We as a minority faith have a right to have our children taught in schools of our own faith.

The repeal of Section 7 (3) (c) is in contravention of the European Convention on Human Rights Article 2 Protocol 1, which guards the right of parents to educate their children in accordance with their faith convictions.

It would appear that by reducing children who should be allowed to attend the school and admitting those who have less, or no interest, in attending a faith based national school, we are just transferring the problem and not addressing the major issue (i.e. the shortage of school places for an increasing population) by building additional schools.

I urge you to keep this in mind when making any changes to the system already in place.
