Join our Fairer Funding Campaign Weston Mercury
ARE you sick and tired of seeing vital services cut? Do you want to see extra cash for Weston’s education system and hospital, and more police on our streets?
There is £50million in the Government’s cash pot with Weston’s name on it for these vital services – but so far those in Westminster have refused to hand it over.
For decades, our town has been given a raw deal in terms of Government grants – so here at the Mercury we think it’s time to take a stand.
Four weeks ago we launched a campaign in the paper to try to win our town the funding it deserves.
There are four main areas in which North Somerset traditionally loses out compared to other local authority areas – these are health, education, council and policing. In other words, frontline services used by people every day.
Each week the Mercury revealed just how Weston is getting a raw deal to the tune of tens of millions of pounds every year, while these services are forced to slash budgets.
Our police force lost out on £11million last year, the education funding shortfall stands at £4million or more, the region’s health services are also missing out on £13million and the North Somerset Council was paid £22million less than the national average last year.
This campaign is an opportunity to speak up for North Somerset and add your name to a petition which will force David Cameron to take notice and give us a fairer deal.
We have teamed up with MP John Penrose, who has agreed to take the signed petition to Downing Street himself.
If you want to join us in lobbying the Government, sign the petition in this week’s Mercury and share it with your friends and family.
Send your completed petitions to The Fairer Funding Campaign, Weston, Worle & Somerset Mercury, 32 Waterloo Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1LW.
