Derby doesn't have enough lovely buildings, or venues, to lose one - specially after the Assembly Rooms fire. Plus, there's little point in regenerating Green Lane unless there's a reason to go there - it needs a destination. Some joined up thinking on this would be brilliant.

Derby: my home town. Theatre: my passion. Save this iconic building for the arts.

With the current uncertainty regarding the future of the Assembly Rooms, surely now would be a good time for the Derby City Council to consider the possibility of renovating the Hippodrome to the beautiful building it used to be and demolishing the Assembly Rooms!

There are no facilities in Derby for prestigious live cultural events. We have to go to Nottingham or Leicester or Birmingham. This is a disgrace for a large city like Derby.

I lived in Derby before moving to the small town of Nuneaton, which has few amenities. Now, for my entertainment, I choose between Leicester, Nottingham and Birmingham for theatre, opera, orchestral works etc. Unfortunately, Derby is sadly lacking in these areas because there is no world-class venue. The Hippodrome would provide this.

This once beautiful building with such a rich history and so many memories should be preserved.

This theatre has played an important part in the history of Derby and it would be an excellent facility for the town if it was restored. It might also raise the prestige of Derby in the East Midlands.

Derby has been in desperate need of a theatre for a long while now, and the renovation of it's once beautiful Hippodrome could not come sooner. Please make this a possibility and sign the petition.

Please save this sadly neglected but necessary building. Theatres bring communities together, & can help the next generation to build confidence & give them an outlet in a safe environment.

Too many historic theatres, which formed part of the
English artistic culture, have been lost since the
last war which itself, led to the loss of many.
We need to preserve all of those that potentially
can be brought back to life and provide live
entertainment, like the Kings Theatre, Southsea!

This was an excellent Theatre and needs to be restored. There is a lack of performance space in Derby , especially with the current state of the Assemble Rooms

Local theatre is most important as it provides the local community with an easy option to support the arts. Not with standing that without them, our students from infants to college and further would not get the experience that the provincial theatre can offer.

The local council (councillors) needs pushing completely as they are not attuned to the arts.

Portsmouth council was a good example of this original attitude.

Derby must make every effort to preserve this theatre, failure cannot be contemplated. To be a fully rounded city a touring venue is a prerequisite.

I support all attempts to restore Derby Hippodrome. Please tell me why the prices quoted for
advertising are in 'cents'?

The City of Derby vitally needs a theatre of this size, and restoring the Hippodrome would also aid the regeneration of the area which has recently been announced.

The Derby Hippodrome is a "sleeping beauty theatre" that deserves restoration. The fire at the Assembly Rooms has proved the need for an alternative venue. The Hippodrome an take bigger stage productions that the Assembly Rooms and the council should sell the Assembly Rooms, which have been damaged by fire and invest in restoring the Hippodrome instead.

Such a worthy cause. Derby has so much history to it. One of the reasons I love derby is its charm and character, which is enhanced by its beautiful historical buildings. So lets not let this one be ripped down or left to rot.

DHRT are doing a very commendable job in striving to restore this historic gem and its about time they got some solid support from the council and other organisations.

Being a new comer to derby I am surprised it does not have what I would call a proper theatre, I understand the hippodrome was a real theatre and I just wonder why the council would let it go to rack and ruin like it has.

DERBY NEEDS A REAL THEATRE, I REMEMBER THE HIPPODROME HAD REAL SHOWS AND REAL VARIETY SHOWS. SURELY A FRACTION OF THE COST OF THE NEW VELADROME WOULD HAVE RESTORED THE THEATRE.

Derby City Council should be ashamed of their continuing failure to save and protect or listed buildings and monuments. They failed to send out a stern message to their own departments or others and that is why this tragedy occurred. We need the Hippodrome to save live theatre and our cultural history.
