I have a great grand father who served in the American civil war, during my research I come across a lot that I did not know about what went on at that time then thing that I found changed my mind. It was because of the British Government at the time.

because their never was a famine in ireland ,their was a potato blight , it was genocide ,when the ships left the limerick docks the water was coming over the side of the ships because they were so weighted down with livestock for mother england ,

I believe that there was sufficient food in Ireland at the time It was an economic policy ---laissez-faire and our people died It was genocide ---an unforgivable act

It was a GENOCIDE. Boat loads of food left Ireland every day for england. My/Our Ancestors needed to be expunged as we always refused foreign rule & the english just wanted our most fertile island to award to their war heroes. Wars that resulted in subjugation of Peoples' from slavery of Africans to India.

When this time in history is described as a "famine", it makes me sick. This was genocide, without question. The DELIBERATE starvation of thousands upon thousands of people was so less than a holocaust! Stealing land, banishing them to certain death - not my definition of famine.

It is very sad that a genocide of these proportions took place in our history, and is called misleadingly a famine, yet think how it is still happening today in regions of Africa, etc. Why.does not mankind wake up to the fact that we all are in the same boat here on earth and that we are all interconnected as equal people?

I signed so that the world will recognise what really happen in Ireland.I dont wish to have the genocide which happened here in Ireland,to be glossed over in history as a Famine.Or that there was a food shortage,food was being exported from Ireland under Military protection.

I am 65 yrs old and even as a young girl I thought, Why Did They Do This To The Irish?! I did think of Hitler but just couldn't and did not want to even think about it. My eyes have been open now but it took courageous people as you are to print the history.
