Many websites on the internet &  Facebook- Okotoks Urban Hen Pilot Project  would agree with you.

I signed because, given all the mounting and documented evidence to date detailing the many downsides of such ventures in urban settings (which is conveniently being ignored), and equally importantly, the fact that it only ADDS to the non-compassionate exploitation of these living creatures (hens and their chicks, AND male birds/roosters; both in the "supply chain" and as a consequence of these "projects"), it is utter foolishness overall. Additionally, since it is also stripping the rights of adjacent neighbours (including their own pets' ultimate safety), it is wrong on that level as well. In total, I can't agree with any part of the whole idea.

Couldn't agree more.

TOWN OF OKOTOKS URBAN HEN PILOT GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS states: 6.2 No person who keeps urban hens shall:
a) sell eggs, manure, meat, or other products derived from an urban hen;
This was found on a local hen support group FB page-
Anyone interested in some eggs? I have too much! You can eat them, incubate them, whatever! My kids just picked them out of the coop this morning. I've got 3 dozen chicken ($4/dozen) and 3 dozen turkey ($6/dozen). I'm giving you guys first dibs cuze you're awesome
wink emoticon
Disclaimer - these are not inspected or washed and are most definitely fertilized and humanely produced.
1-If these are "definitely fertilized", what will happens to the roosters?
TOWN OF OKOTOKS URBAN HEN PILOT GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS states: 4.1 No person shall be permitted to keep a rooster or hen in an urban area, other than an urban hen for which a valid urban hen license has been issued.
2- "Not inspected"? Help AHS!
3- Are more chicken coops going to stop this or bylaw going to be monitoring the chicken coops for no roosters?

NEW ad shows they are STILL selling eggs. WHO IS MONITORING THIS? Bylaw who approved the applications? YES!http://www.kijiji.ca/v-buy-se…/…/fresh-farm-eggs/1024151328

 So I have to buy a farm if I want a hen? Makes so much sense.
