I strongly support the activities of the Norwegian Institute at Athens to continue its mission to advance knowledge of Greek history and culture and to encourage international cooperation.

The closure of the Norwegian Institute would be a pointless and meaningless act. It would be a retreat from responsibility and an amputation of the common Norwegian academic and scientific body.

The
Norwegian Institute in Athens plays a very important role in the presentation of many cultural events in Athens that have to do with archaeological findings poetry literature and art .It is a pole of vivid interaction between our nations and a place of education and friendship in a free spirit !These things are missing more an more in our competitive societies and many people like me in Greece believe and hope that this petition will help
The Norwegian Institute in Athens to remain exactly in the way it is
Providing more culture and free thinking to everyone who takes part to all these interesting multicultural events.

Not only does my School in Dublin have an Erasmus agreement with Oslo, but I also follow the progress of the many projects run by the Norwegian Institute at Athens, especially that on Naxos. It is imperative that all such international institutes get the funding they need to support students, lecturers and the many collaborative projects they facilitate in Greece.

As an employee at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, I can attest to the scholarly importance of having a foreign archaeological institute in Athens in general and, in the specific case of the Norwegian Institute, the exemplary work that they do.

I'm signing because I think that also Norway should have be present at one of Europe's most important historical sights, as are countries that we like to compare ourself with, and compete with, regarding competence in both history, ancient philosophy, classics and archeology.

The Norwegian Institute at Athens is an important resource to research and cultural exchange in Greece also on current issues. It is not more than a few months since I had an inquiry to researchers there.

As a Classical scholar, I have spent much time in Athens (at the American School). I have been to many lectures and a couple of symposia at the Norwegian Institute. They have been informative, interesting, first-rate presentations. It's a wonderful addition to the intellectual life of Hellenic studies in Athens, and it serves as an important link between that world and Norway. Please do not let Norway loose this vital connection to the Ancient Greek past.

(Crawfordsville, Indiana, 2018-10-29)

The Norwegian Institute has had an important role in Athens and in Greece more broadly. Its demise would diminish us all.

Only illiterate idiots would close the institute!

It would be hard to imagine an Athens without the Norwegian Institute! It is a well-respected and important research hub that has had a profound impact on the development of myself and many of my colleagues.

Institutions performing research important for the knowledge and understanding of our historical heritage are more vital then ever in times of strengthening tendencies towards nationalism, isolation and ignorance towards historical facts. Shutting down an institution like this which is constantly doing great work would especcially in this respect be the absolutely wrong sign.

Athens & the rest of Hellas has a plethora of amazing sites to study and many more that need to be discovered by students of archaeology and their communities. It is utterly important to maintain this very well organized program and help support their work.

I am convinced of the importance of the Norwegian Institute for a better knowledge of the Archaeology of Greece and it would be crazy for culture to close it.
