Why should an attraction that's been there for many years have to go for some housing development which is not even British, we all know that we have to have more housing, a large power company allowed them to work around them plus the fact that they were there before the development was agreed.Alan Harding (Cannock, 2023-03-29)

As a live steam hobbyist myself and a victim of "progress" and development, loosing sites like these will never be replaced and will be a loss to the whole communityKeith Bradley (Guateng, 2023-03-31)

I support The Rugeley Model Engineering Society in its quest to secure their site for the benefit of members & when the rest of the site becomes fully developed the surrounding community as part of the recreational area. The club is also an important part of the Model Engineering fraternity with exchange visits to many other clubs throughout the country, preserving parts of our historic industrial revolution in miniature form. I & many fellow Model Engineers sincerely hope that this club is allowed to thrive in everyone’s interest.Pat Ward (Derby, 2023-03-31)

I want to see common sense prevail. Not the least because to destroy the area inside the track will be an ecological disaster.

I am an avid model engineer and I feel that the destruction of any miniature railway, especially an established and well loved one, like the Rugeley railway should be preserved for posterity.Cliff Battersby (Whitwell, 2023-04-03)

I am a lifelong avid Model Engineer and feelstrongly that resources such as the Rugeley club are incalculably valuable to communities. There is about to be a massive increase in this community, and removing a resource like this is sheer folly.

My father was a model engineer. The skill and love that goes into building model locomotives, and maintaining the railway is something we should be keen to preserve. The housing development can still have a public space incorporating the railway, surely? My local track is next to playing fields and a childs play area. There is no reason a compromise cannot be found. This is a treasure, don't be so short-sighted to lose it for the sake of squeezing in a few extra houses.H Rich (Newport, 2023-05-23)

HI I am currently the Chairman of Sutton Coldfield M.E.S Ltd. We have over many years exchange visits to each others premises. I hope the developers he some sense in keeping this type of facility alive. It would be good for the local people to have this attraction and keep this hobby for further generations.Clive Burrows (Lichfield, 2023-05-23)

These small railways are as much a part of our industrial heritage as any other preserved railway. They provide enjoyment for both the public and the operators, and give a great opportunity to pass on skills and knowledge across the generations.Derek Smith (Margate, 2023-06-04)

This miniature railway should not be lost. It is something great for the community. So many people have put such time, effort and so much love in to this.It would be criminal to destroy it for more houses and profit ££££££££ 😥😥😥😥

Too much green space is being appropriated for housing. People have dedicated much time and effort into this little railway. Shame on those who want to spoil it! Housing is not the only important issue in Rugeley.Linda Baddeley (Birmingham, 2023-06-11)

As a child we used to visit one of the engineers who made the actual steam engines for this railway, I never knew there was an actual railway he ran them on but now I do it needs preserving,.Typical of the society we live in now where we’ll destroy our heritage to provide more housing.

Totally unreasonable to disrupt a delight passtime (which I don't personally engage in) for the sake of the sacrifice of a miniscule profit for 11 houses out of a total of more than 2,000. The Developer should be ashamed of such greed.Robert Fenner (Rushden, 2023-07-02)

I believe that this miniature railway will be a very valuable community asset for the benefit of the local inhabitants of the newly-redeveloped site. IT would be a great loss if it had to close or reduce its operations significantly. I live in a town where our miniature railway is situated in the local park and is well-loved by people who come from miles around to enjoy riding it. Our Borough Council are all in favour of its operation, give good practical support to us and often request our Society to provide railway services in the park (a Green Flag park) on town festival days.Richard Siddall (Leyland, 2023-07-05)

Because I believe the model railway club should be given the right to remain on the land as it was set up there. We have a miniature railway locally and it's in the middle of a housing estate and thrives as a local attractionNicholas John (SWANSEA, 2023-08-21)

This is a club of the greatest benefit to those who will be moving into the area as the site develops. These clubs are vital to spark the interest of our heritage and volunteering in the youngest of our population. These clubs are seen as an asset anywhere they exist by the local community. This site must be saved in its present form and improved as part of the planning.Paul Stephenson (Yarm, 2023-11-19)

We need facilities to teach children (and other adilts) the history of this (once?) Great nation. What better way that by entertaining them, as we do in Sunderland - Roles Park - by providing FREE RIDES - for young and old alike. This allows them to experience railways close up. And when the join the club they get hands-on experience of what it takes to run a railway. And learn about how steam and electric motive power works. And why we used steam power for 200 years. This is so much more than pleasure rides.Ken Chicken (Sunderland, 2023-11-19)

The skills used to build and maintain this wonderful asset should be nurtured and encouraged, not lost or cast aside as unnecessary. Through assets such as these the skills needed in the future and elsewhere are inspired. Long may they continue to bring joy to children of all ages.Tom Turner (Sunderland, 2023-11-19)
