Stop the solar farm next to Barnsdale Gardens

I have been very much inspired by the work carried out at Barnsdale and feel shocked that the success of this site could be jeopardized. The loss of valuable agricultural land at a time when food prices are rising and as food supply becomes more uncertain also seems quite remiss.

jeremy Kenwood (Dulverton, 2022-11-18)

#803

I’m signing because I am concerned that even considering placing the solar farm so close to Barnsdale shows a lack of joined up thinking. The variety of trees and shrubs have helped to mop up millions of units of co2 over the years and will continue to do so but only if Barnsdale is allowed to prosper. Please think again!

Gayle Careless (Nottingham, 2022-11-19)

#805

Although Solar farms are necessary it is ludicrous that somewhere as amazing as Barnsdale should be lost because of lack of planning and the use of more viable sites! Therefore I strongly appose this application

Ann-marie Beard (Exeter, 2022-11-19)

#806

The solar farm will impair the environment of Barnsdale Gardens unnecessarily as the farm could be erected in a better area.

Rita Robinson (Nottingham , 2022-11-19)

#808

Having visited last week and had a lovely time with friends I was looking forward to visiting during the summer. I wonder if this will be such a pleasant if there is noise and upset to the surrounding areas.

Gill Robertson (Nottingham, 2022-11-20)

#809

Barnsdale gardens is the most beautiful and special place for lots of people. Absolutely no need to be putting these awful solar panels on land at all. It certainly isn’t going to save the world. How about planting trees instead. No to solar panels.

Alison Wright (Derbyshire , 2022-11-20)

#810

I like Barnsdale gardens and I believe it is a insult to the Memory of Jeff Hamilton

Steve Coates (Alfreton , 2022-11-20)

Solar farms are a blot on the landscape

Madeline Muffett (Willowgate Cottage, Clippesby, Norfolk, 2022-11-23)

#817

sure there are better places that have less local impact as well as energy we also need to relax

Graham Oliver (Hampton Vale, 2022-11-25)

#819

Barnsley gardens is a haven in the Lincolnshire countryside. Popular and a lovely tranquil place to visit. It would be a great shame to this be blighted or be under the threat if closure.

Ros Hobbs (Loughborough , 2022-11-26)

#820

We need to protect as much green and wildlife friendly space as possible. And gardens such as these are a valuable resource for people too in these stressful times.

Hilary Mathison (Salisbury, 2022-11-27)

#825

I've visited Barnsdale and would like it preserved for the future.

John Hall (SALISBURY, 2022-11-28)

#826

Not a suitable place - have visited Barnsdale and the wonderful hotel there - there are masses of other places around where this would be an asset and not a nuisance to visitors to this beautiful area.

Gillian Platt (Lockerley, Romsey, 2022-11-28)

#831

It is so important to keep supporting businesses that help people to learn about plants and gardening. We don’t need to cover green fields with solar - we need to grow food on fields and put solar in Everett building to retain our green spaces. Even if the cables are costly and the reason it is incredibly short sighted to cover up green spaces

Annie Samwells (Hereford , 2022-12-04)

#832

I greatly value Geoff Hamilton's legacy, enjoy visiting Barnsdale and sourcing plants from there.

joyce graves (nottingham, 2022-12-04)

#836

I care about the impact on Barnsdale Gardens

Margaret Greaves (Wisbech, 2022-12-14)

#840

I support solar PV renewable energy but object to the Exton Solar Farm on the grounds of the unnecessary loss of 81Ha of farmland to accommodate the solar panels.
Government policy is that ground mounted solar should use previously developed land. The site is in Rutland, and Rutland has around 150Ha of quarry sites which, on completion of quarrying over the next 20 years , could be used to host solar farms as they become available. This certainly meets the governments criteria of using developed land and can be started immediately as Greetham has 20 ha of exhausted unrestored quarry now with more becoming available in the next two years. Why not use it for solar energy for rather than good farmland which, grade 3 or not, will certainly produce more food than a quarry.

Richard Creasey (Greetham, 2022-12-14)

#842

Geoff Hamilton was a National Treasure & his legacy & values must be allowed to continue to inspire, enlighten & educate with the peace & tranquility that exists there presently.

Raea Pettitt (Market Rasen, 2022-12-19)

#843

I believe that the attitudes and ideas passed on by Geoff Hamilton shaped and transformed modern thinking about gardening and wider enviromental issues. Althese gardens are relatively recent in their construction I beleive as time marches on they will continue to grow in their historical significance.

Alan Cloke (St austell, 2022-12-19)

#845

Geoff Hamilton and Barnsdale Gardens were my inspiration to become a gardener and to lose this valuable place would be wrong, on so many levels.

Carol Parker (CHESTERFIELD, 2022-12-21)

#849

I visited the area recently and a solar farm would create a devastating intrusion on the beautiful landscape.

John Peacock (Rogerstone, 2022-12-23)

#853

I'm signing because, as much as we need solar energy we do need to consider the consequences of assigning acres of farm land to this technology. This does not seem to have been thought through carefully.

Allan Tabbinor (ATHERSTONE, 2022-12-27)

#854

I am a supporter of Barnsdale Gardens

Maggie Lawrence (Ketton, 2022-12-28)

#855

It cannot be lost

David Collins (Huddersfield , 2022-12-28)

#863

I am signing this petition because of it being far to close to Barnsdale Gardens.
It would appear that there has been no consideration to access, surrounding natural habitat and the environment including these beautiful gardens which are Nationally recognised and attracts large numbers of visitors.

Trevor Alcock (Market Harborough, 2023-01-01)

#864

I'm signing because I'm an Anglophile who visits the UK as often as possible, and specifically, because I plan to visit Barnsdale Gardens in May 2023 after seeing it featured on an episode of Escape to the Country. Best wishes for successful opposition to this Exton Energy plan - surely there are other more suitable lands to build their solar farm that doesn't endanger precious resources like these beautiful gardens. How shameful on their part.

Janis Bellack (JOHNS ISLAND, SC, 2023-01-01)

#866

In a world where peace & tranquility have never been more important for peoples well being, Barnsdale offers the refuge we all need.

john vaughan-folwer (oxford, 2023-01-01)

#872

I love these gardens and they deserve to be protected to ensure Geoff Hamilton's legacy lives on.

Janet Smith (BUXTON, 2023-01-04)

#873

I consider the proposed solar farm would be detrimental to Barnstable Gardens and its environment. Birdwatching is a treat within the gardens ….. birds need quiet and the natural world to flourish.
As a society, we should be cherishing the natural world. Solar energy is important, but more thought should be given to finding more acceptable sites for solar farms.

Alison Cowley (Stamford, 2023-01-06)

#874

1. The panels will be right up against the gardens fence.
2. The noise will be horrible for guests and they do not want to see panels there.
3. Fire risk from the electrical storage equipment (BESS)
is more common than you think and it could spread to the gardens very easily.
4. It is not acceptable that someone is making a lot of money from this proposal at the expense of someone business and this needs to stop. Solar farms should be located out of sight.

Lorraine Tunstall (Exton, 2023-01-06)

#876

I believe that this garden has an important role in the wellbeing of the community

Steve Binns (Wootton, 2023-01-08)

#877

Barnsdale is an important historical site and should be saved especially for those who learned how to garden from the great Geoffrey Hamilton

Isabel Binns (Wootton bedford, 2023-01-08)

#878

Any new scheme should not force beautiful and long established businesses to close or affect in any way !
Environmental friendly or not.

W Van Rein (Kilchrenan, 2023-01-08)

#880

Barnsdale Gardens is a unique garden that cannot be moved somewhere else - whereas, there are plenty of more suitable locations for the solar farm

Cate Blumenthal (Berks, 2023-01-08)

#881

Barnstable Gardens are an asset in the area and all consideration should be shown to this site and the environmental impact it would cause.

Sara Allan (Hitchin, 2023-01-08)

#888

I've recently started buying plants from this garden centre and there it is a great service. Nature needs to be honoured supported and valued.. for our generation and the generations to come. Nature is Vital for us and our survival... Also rhere is a continuity of work here with the gardens. These places need Our protection.
Bees can't speak..we must be able to speak out for them . LIFE MUST HAVE BALANCE. BEST WISHES

Rai Barker (Ryde, 2023-01-11)

#889

I strongly object to the imposition of severe noise nuisance upon the publicly available facility known as Barnsdale Gardens which is very reliant on it's peaceful situation.
Relocating the gardens would destroy the popular heritage which the renowned Geoff Hamilton gifted.

Andrew Hood (Cambridge, 2023-01-12)

#893

I support renewables but notacres of intrusive photovoltaics in the countryside.. where food might be grown

Angela Parker (Truro, 2023-01-13)

#894

There are more suitable places on brownfield sites to place them. Why should a long established garden such as Barnsdale Gardens be under threat not to mention people's livelihoods being at risk.

Maureen Wragg (Derby, 2023-01-13)

#896

Geoff Hamilton was a great inspiration to all gardeners and wildlife enthusiast's and his memory and garden must be preserved at all costs.

John Tweed (London, 2023-01-14)

#897

This solar farm would be in entirely the wrong place. These very special gardens need to be kept to protect their environment, beauty & the memory of a wonderful man.

Linda Tweed (Pinner, 2023-01-14)

#908

The gardens provide part of our country’s gardening history and heritage.

Susan Wills (Little Snoring , 2023-01-19)

#909

Barnsdale Gardens are special and inspirational and must be preserved

Eunice Boniface (Southampton, 2023-01-22)

#910

To stop this developement.

Stephen Peters (Kent, 2023-01-22)

#912

Barnsdale Gardens are a national treasure and should be preserved as a resource for gardeners and other visitors. Geoff Hamilton's broadcasts on Gardeners' World did a great deal to promote organic and affordable gardening and the Gardens demonstrate what can be done. I learned a lot and it would be a tragedy if future gardeners didn't have the same opportunity. A healthy garden depends on birds and other creatures which would be disturbed by the proposed solar farm. An ecological gain shouldn't be at the cost of ecological damage

Antonia Cannon (Leeds, 2023-01-22)

#913

With climate change and mental health issues we need to protect our gardens and green spaces for all to enjoy.

Clare Feeley (Milford, Godalming, 2023-01-22)

#914

I want to protect Barnsdale Gardens from closure and protect the legacy of Geoff Hamilton, who created these beautiful and iconic gardens.

Elaine Seaton (Corby, 2023-01-22)

#915

I love Barnsdale gardens and this should not go ahead.

Jane Walker (Thrapston , 2023-01-22)

#916

I am signing this petition because this garden is part of our gardening history. It is a unique tribute to the gardener Geoff Hamton and his family raising the awareness of gardening in all setting, all in one place. Its like a permanent ideal home exhibition for gardening. A large wind farm would also destroy the whole area which is relaxing and beautiful.

Stephen Taylor (Feering, 2023-01-23)

#924

Geoff Hamilton was the reason we got into gardening and as a result we have planned hundreds of trees and plants at our smallholding. Solar panels are great but the site has to be carefully chosen with least damage to wildlife and surrounding sites. Would be better if the government introduced a bill specifying that every new build property had solar panels on the roof and ground source heating.

David Carr (Silverstone, 2023-01-25)

#928

It is the most beautiful garden and very relaxing
A wonderful day if you live in a flat

John Hillyard (Wellingborough , 2023-01-26)

#929

I do not want the peace and quiet of these wonderful gardens full of wildlife to be affected and maybe closed due to the noise created by the panels and from the construction of the site.

June McConnell (Keyworth, 2023-01-26)

#931

I support Barnsdale Gardens

Jan wills (Oakham, 2023-01-27)

#932

Because Geoff Hamilton was a truly wonderful man in life, my mother watched Gardeners World throughout the 1980's and myself beyond into his programs like Cottage Gardens.

He left behind a real legacy of real gardening and genuine presenting when Gardeners were Gardeners and not celebrities as most are today.

I haven't personally been to Barnsdale, my mother has and i would love to visit many times so it is incredibly important to preserve this wonderful institution and place of beauty.

A D Takis (Carshalton , 2023-01-28)

#933

Barnstaple gardens have been a site of tranquility and inspiration to thousands of people, young and old, over many years. As well as being almost a pilgrimage destination for those of us old enough to remember the late Geoff Hamilton, a charismatic superhero, who inspired the bug for gardening in many people.
To learn of a development which could put the future of Barnsdale Gardens in doubt is unimaginable.

Tom Ellard (Lowestoft, 2023-01-28)

#934

Barnsdale is a unique garden and should not be threatened by this solar farm. I understand that there are better sites for such a development.

Judith Ellard (Lowestoft, 2023-01-28)

#939

Historic interest - BBCGardeners World. Loss of education Training for future gardeners. Conservation & nature.

Val Hutchinson (Lincoln, 2023-01-31)

#940

I think it is important that we save Barnsdale for the nation and to remember Geoff Hamilton

Graham Wood (Wrexham Clwyd, 2023-01-31)

#942

This is just so wrong on so many levels. All part of globerlist net zero agenda 2030. Pouring cement into fields rendering them useless for future generations mainly
for financial gain by big companies is criminal. Solar panels belong on buildings or brown field sites not on good land.

Ruth Stephenson (Lincoln, 2023-02-01)

#944

It would be a disaster if these beautiful gardens and nursery were to close. They bring so much happiness to people and continue the legacy of Geoff Hamilton

Maggie Ruthven (Alnwick, 2023-02-02)

#945

Barnsdale gardens are beautiful and worth saving! It would such a huge loss.

Francisca Gazley (Cobourg, 2023-02-03)

#946

Because I agree with your principles.
And your late brother was such an inspiration to so many of us.

Val Griffin (Wandsworth, 2023-02-03)

#947

I think the gardens should be protected and the farm sited elsewhere

Lucy Peck (Cublington , 2023-02-03)

#948

I am signing this petition as there are other land spaces that do not interfere with local icons such as Barnsdale Gardens. It’s a place for humans to unwind in.

Dawn Green (Cranfield, 2023-02-03)

#949

It will spoil Barnsdale Gardens.

Duncan Ball (Oakham, 2023-02-04)

Barnsdale Gardens is an important site an one off and can not be replaced

roy simpson (Scunthorpe, 2023-02-04)

While I have an interest in the environment and sustainability, this must not be at the expense of both public peace and tranquility which aids mental health and the safety and security of the natural habitat.

I want to protect Barnsdale Gardens from closure and protect the legacy of Geoff Hamilton, who created these beautiful Gardens and inspired so many people

I object very strongly to this development detrimentally affecting Barnsdale Gardens.

Thaddeus Wilk (Stamford , 2023-02-07)

#957

There are other areas they could use

Tracey Milligan (Essex, 2023-02-07)

#961

This is a wonderful space and should be preserved. Renewable energy is very important but there are other places it could be, with less disruption.

Ali Clarke (Derby, 2023-02-08)

#968

This is a beautiful place and it would be devastating to see this go.

Laura Barber (Melton Mowbray , 2023-02-10)

#969

We need to protect wonderful gardens and nature for ourselves and future generations.

Kay Aldersley (Bedworth, 2023-02-10)

We don’t want to lose this beautiful pl e.

Maureen Mccluskey (Oakham, 2023-02-10)

#973

This is a legacy from Geoff Hamilton, the best presenter of Gardners World.

Ian Shaw (Durham, 2023-02-11)

#974

Protect established gardens already rich in biodiversity is much needed

Lesley Garratt (Warrington , 2023-02-12)

#977

This is an unnecessary development when rational alternatives are readily available

John Doyle (Mountsorrel, 2023-02-13)

#978

Barnsdale Gardens is a place that supports biodiversity, which is declining across the country on a rapid scale. We need to protect places that support nature.
It is also an iconic garden designed by Geoff Hamilton, which arguably pulls in lots of visitors to the area.
To have places like Barnsdale Gardens is very important in a post pandemic world - somewhere for people to visit, get inspiration, find peace and from a local economy point of view, spend money.

Jacqueline Blackmore-Allen (Nottingham, 2023-02-13)

#979

I like the peace and quiet at bsrnsdale and worried about the wildlife

David Hardie (Leicester, 2023-02-13)

#982

Barns sale gardens is a national treasure and should be protected

Nimesh Mistry (Leicester , 2023-02-13)

#983

What an awful irony that a garden crested by a man with such sound ecological principles should be strangled out if existence by a "farm" purporting to support ecology!

Michael O'Brien (Southampton , 2023-02-15)

#986

The peace and tranquillity of these lovely gardens enjoyed by thousands of people would be destroyed. A solar farm is a semi industrial development and more careful thought should be put into the sighting.

Colin Harpham (Loughborough, 2023-02-17)

#988

I love Barnsdale Gardens and feel that, in memory, of their wonderful creator, Geoff Hamilton, they should be preserved and protected, at all costs.
They are a hugely popular and important attraction, in Rutland.
It is the peace and tranquility, as well as the beautiful plants and trees, that attract visitors.
I am all for renewable energy but in the right places and this is not one of them!
In the present economic climate, we must do all we can, to support local businesses.

Diana Whitton (Cottesmore, 2023-02-19)

#992

We are loosing too much valuable land in this country to renewables . The noise and vibration and visual impact particularly on the Barnsdale Gardens would be detrimental to its business. Visitors attending the garden go there not just to see the gardens but to appreciate the peace and quiet and wildlife. There would be considerable noise and traffic during the construction too.

Amanda Campbell (Scunthorpe , 2023-02-21)

#993

I totally agree with the comments made by Nick Hamilton - there are better fields to locate this proposed solar farm

Susan Miller (Market Harborough, 2023-02-21)

#995

These gardens are an important legacy and whilst it is good to support renewable energy, it is also important to encourage and cultivate gardeners to keep our bees and insects. If a solar farm will destroy the important legacy of these gardens, it will have a negative environmental impact.

Karen Cowen (Nottingamshire, 2023-02-21)

#996

This development represents a threat to the legacy of a much loved gardener and all he stood for. I am all for renewable forms of energy but in this case there is an alternative location which l feel should be utilised.

Ann Davies (Gloucester, 2023-02-21)

#999

The proposal for the site is completely inconsiderate of existing provisions.
