STOP THE TOWER BLOCK - SAVE BIRNBECK & PRINCE CONSORT GARDENS

I’m signing this because I disagree with the height of the proposed building.
It won’t be inline with the surrounding style of buildings making it look out of place and won’t blend in.

It will cause issues with the Prince Consort Gardens, not allowing the same amount or light through and spoil it’s surroundings.

The traffic in the area will also increase massively causing more issues on the local roads surrounding it.

The plans need to be scaled down and more in keeping with the surrounding buildings and style.

I am completely opposed to the current plans as I’m sure are many many others for exactly the same reasons!

The last thing Weston needs is another badly designed and oversized tower block, especially when it overshadows existing buildings & landmarks. It would stick out like a giant sized blot on the neighbouring landscape and will not fit with the existing aesthetic at all!

I love how are seafront used to look, when Birnbeck Pier was still in use. The Royal Pier hotel was the building i can always pinpoint in Weston as being architectually pleasing to the eye, and perfect for where it was. I honestly can't accept a monstrous block of 'high end' apartments in it's place. Every bit of Westons heritage is being destroyed or sold off and its heart breaking to see our town turning into another tacky, soulless and classless seaside Town. This particular developer should not be allowed to even build anything here after what has happened to Birnbeck Pier whilst in their hands! It would be shameful to allow them carte blanche to ruin our seaside landscape.

Alison Tucker (Weston Super Mare, 2021-08-11)

The whole area owned by CNM has been left in a sorry state. No thought has been given to the environmental impact of the development

Roger Morley (Weston super Mare, 2021-08-11)

#614

I think this development will spoil the character of the area. The architecture is not even in keeping with the area. Absolutely nor!

Janet Searle (Weston super mare, 2021-08-11)

#616

This proposal is detrimental to one of the most beautiful parts of Weston and will spoil views for many living in the area.

Susan Norvill (Tunbridge Wells, 2021-08-11)

The proposed development is not in keeping with the area and will spoil the surrounding landscape and seascape

Brian Randall (Nailsea, Bristol, 2021-08-11)

#620

CNM Estates is not fit to own any buildings around the Birnbeck pier area as they have shown that they do not value their assets and are willingly to go to any lengths to get what they want. They have also shown that they do not protect the public and pay their debts

Hugh Gedrych (WESTON-SUPER-MARE, 2021-08-11)

We love weston and Birnbeck pier....It holds personal memories as we scattered my brothers ashes at the Pier..

Sam Young (Bromsgrove, 2021-08-11)

#626

This proposal is totally unsuited to the site due to its height. If it were a residential development blocking the view from your home/property would you support it. The track record of CNM estates in our town is questionable in the least, not to be trusted!!

Adrian Moore (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-11)

#630

I think these flats are a monstrosity . They look horrendous . Not in keeping with anything at this end of the town . Please do not allow this to be built . It will be the ruination of these beautiful gardens spoiling everyone's views .

Felicity Moss (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-12)

#631

As once a resident for many years in Weston super mare and then uphill , I find it appalling that Birnbeck pier was ever allowed to fall into the state of disrepair that has happened.
Any developers that take on / purchase these heritage sites , should be held accountable for the properties right from the beginning. And made from day one to be accountable for the repairs and safe keeping of them . This is a typical example of a company that have clearly no intentions of preserving property like Birnbeck pier , and should also not be allowed to build the monstrosity they want to build on the site of the old pier hotel. After all if they can't preserve Birnbeck pier how on earth can they build the other ?

Estelle Cobb (Cheddar, 2021-08-12)

#632

The proposed building is not in keeping with the seafront and will obscure the view from the Prince Consort Gardens - which are a much treasured local amenity

Joy Morton (Weston super Mare, 2021-08-12)

#633

This will ruin the skyline and it is over bearing

Michelle Kennedy (Weston, 2021-08-12)

#634

The view from Prince Consort gardens would be destroyed

Tim Oliver (Weston super Mare, 2021-08-12)

#635

Prince Consort Gardens is the only, easily accessible and immediate, highly valued panoramic view of Weston Bay from Brean Down to the Welsh Coast. It will block at least a third of that view and reduced parking for the elderly and disabled to close on zero.

Sonia Russe (Weston super Mare, 2021-08-12)

#638

It's a hideous design, too tall and ugly that ruins the view.

Paul Webb (Wembdon, 2021-08-12)

#647

There's too much concrete and building and not enough grass and scenery! We will end up living in a concreate jungle if all this building work continues. I think it's time to give our children somewhere to play and wildlife to thrive. Tourists won't want to come to Weston if it's built like a city. Not to mention the environment and climate issues with all the traffic. Please think about the future if our world. Thank you

Louise Yorke (Weston-super-mare, 2021-08-12)

#648

I object to the size of the proposed building and loss of seascape views.

Rod Thomas (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-12)

#653

I live and work in this area and use the park as do our guests at local hotel and this block would be an eyesore and spoil the lovely views from the park. Additionally there would be more traffic along the stretch of road leading to it

Jan Duff (Weston super mare, 2021-08-13)

#654

It’s far too big and blocks a lovely view.

Holly Telling (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-13)

#655

I live in the local area and want to preserve the community views for the community, and not to stare at a monster high block of flats

I want to preserve the local environment

David-Chris Eaton (Weston Super Mare, 2021-08-13)

Development too big and obtrusive.

This park is beautiful and was given to the people of Weston

DAVID BARNES (Weston Super Mare, 2021-08-14)

This money making scheme will benefit the developers at the expense of the many locals and visitors who until now have enjoyed the relaxing views over the bay.

RobertThis money making sceme is going to benefit Clarke-Hall (Weston super Mare, 2021-08-14)

#666

The proposed building is too large and too high for the area and should only be allowed the same height and footprint of the demolished hotel.

Beverly Saunderson (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-08-15)

#672

I have lovely memories of playing hide-and-seek with my dog and gazing out to sea from Prince-Regenten-Gardens in this very peaceful and historical part of town. If (God forbid!) Planning permission is awarded then only under the condition that the Birnbeck Pier Restoration should start and run concurrently at the same firm's expense.

Janet Wharton (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-16)

#674

The scale of the proposed building is far too big/tall for the site. The size of it will completely ruin the beautiful landscape and view from Prince Consort Gardens. Parking is at a premium all around this area, you cannot agree to this massive development. This Developer is simply time wasting and has been doing so since 2014 - he should be made to complete the renovation to Birnbeck Pier BEFORE being granted any permissions to build on the site of the old hotel.

Lyn May (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-17)

#675

I object to this proposal as the buildings would be too high and ruin wonderful views from the bar dens and beyond. Any redevelopment must not be higher than the previous building on that site.

Carole Morley (Friston, 2021-08-17)

#678

Any development higher than the original will be detrimental to the visual environment.

grenville richardson (TORQUAY, 2021-08-18)

I think the plan are unsympathetic to the surrounding area and will ruin the views and feel of the area.

Haydon Williams (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#684

I care about local Weston community and the indiscriminate destruction of it's star locations should be resisted

Nicholas Redding (Winscombe, 2021-08-19)

#686

I previously lived in the conservation area and now live just outside it. I feel that a development like this needs to be held to the same standards and rules as other in the conservation area have to follow. When the Rozel hotel was redeveloped the new building was almost the same size as the hotel it replaced and the design was sympathetic to the area. I am not opposed to a development on the site of the Royal Pier hotel but it should be a similar size to the old hotel and the design should be in keeping with the area. The artists drawings show a building that is totally inappropriate in both scale and design.

Christopher Sheldon (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#687

I think the height should be restricted. I’m also worried that holiday let’s will be encouraged and help raise the price of properties even more. Locals are already being priced out of the area. The holiday season doesn’t last all year and it will kill the community.

Kirsty Kendall (Weston Super Mare, 2021-08-19)

#689

I want to keep the beautiful view from Prince Consort Gardens.

Kate Hepworth (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

I believe this would dramatically damage the overall feel of the area and the views from Prince consort gardens

Deborah Sheldon (Weston super mare, 2021-08-19)

#696

They have done nothing too the pier get them to finish that first

Brian Neads (Weston super mare, 2021-08-19)

#702

This building would be totally out of place for the area. I understand the need to regenerate the are but it has to be done sympathetically and in mind of the conservation are in which the land sits. Not only that but it will block views from the gardens which are a very popular place to observe things like the air festival etc

Helen Willes (Weston super mare, 2021-08-19)

#712

Prince Consort is o e of my favourite places to sit on peace. To build this monstrosity would be criminal 😒

Jane March (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#715

I strongly object to this project

William Reynolds (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#718

This is an abortion, too tall and completely out of character with the area and surrounding buildings. Planning permssion should be refused.

John Pawle (Kewstoke, N. Somerset, 2021-08-19)

#721

There is more need to progress the restoration of Birnbeck pier. This feels like blackmail by the owner to build an inappropriate building in this area destroying the heritage of the area.

Colin Lilly (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#725

This proposal is completely out of scale and pays no respect its surroundings. This proposal must be rejected.

Paul Gregory (Portishead, 2021-08-19)

The proposed development is highly detrimental to the conservation area

Jonathan Mitchell (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

I love the park and I horrible block of flats will block the best view in Weston. Favourite part of the town.

Claire evans (Weston super mare, 2021-08-19)

#742

As a former Westonia, I feel that a tower block is unnecessary, unsightly, ugly, and totally out of character for WSM

Susan Mildenhall (Cromer, 2021-08-19)

#744

we need to keep some of our original landmarks and features, this is awful to ruin it with a huge tower block, soon it will not resemble a good old fashioned seaside town

tracey morris (somerset, 2021-08-19)

#747

As a lifetime resident of the town I believe the proposed development is not beneficial or in keeping with the surrounding.

Diane Josling (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#748

I have been brought up in Weston. The Old Pier, Anchor Head and Prince Consort Gardens are all valuable assets to our town. The monstrous design will dessimate this area and totally destroy the aesthetics and conservation of this very treasured and popular part of Weston. It could easily be designed to be in keeping and enhance this beautiful part of our town. There is no excuse to build an excessively large block of flats purely for financial gain, without any consideration for the area and residents. After all, it is in a significant conservation area and should therefore be extremely controlled in terms of height, design, construction etc.

Alison Chambers (Weston super Mare, 2021-08-19)

#751

I think that this location of Weston super Mare should maintain as much of it's authentic aesthetic beauty as possible.

Nicola Pearce (OLDBURY, 2021-08-19)

#752

The proposed building is ugly. Doesn't blend in with surrounding environment. Modern building, too large, cheaply designed.

Cheryl Sperring (Burnham-on-Sea, 2021-08-19)

#753

It looks absolutely ghastly

Michael Rowswell (Cardiff, 2021-08-19)

#757

I believe there is already too much residential along Weston front. Needs more tourist attractions as that just might draw people who will then go back through the town.

Diane Hunter (Bleadon, 2021-08-19)

#758

This whole area needs to be sympathetically restored for use of visitors and residents who enjoy peace and beauty. This tower block will only damage the ambiance and probably not be used to capacity because it is too far from town.

Christine Pierce (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#759

I think theres enough houses being built in weston. Maybe they should try and help finish building something decent that will attract people to weston.

Natalie Brabham (Weston super mare, 2021-08-19)

#764

This proposed development would ruin the aspect from Prince Consort Gardens. Consider regeneration in Meadow street/ Orchard street instead

Sharon Shum (Weston super Mare, 2021-08-19)

#767

I love the heritage of Weston sea front and prince consort gardens, I have lived in the town for 60 years and I am in this area frequently for the amenities and the proposed development is completely out of character with the area, CNM estates had allowed the Royal Pier Hotel to be repeatedly vandalised with the prospect of it being destroyed by fire, this development if allowed to proceed would reward their deliberate neglect of the site and of Birnbeck pier, this follows a pattern of their previous activities on sites elsewhere in the country.

Brian Simms (Weston super Mare, 2021-08-19)

#768

Because this area is an absolute gem in terms of architectural and natural heritage. Don't dominate it with a costa-del-sol style monolith. I'm not convinced it can return the potential it has to regenerate for the more discerning visitor.

Helen Nock (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#772

This part of Weston is my personal favourite area of the town, the plight of the old pier has long been a bugbear of mine and the irony is not lost on me that the proposed 8 storey monstrosity this person has come up with is the same person who appears to be content to let the old pier blow off into the sea during a storm one day, it will happen, probably very soon (looking at it)? Absolutely disgusting behaviour we must do all we can to stop this modern day vandal disguised as a property developer!

Robert Cook (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-19)

#773

I wish to preserve the views and openness of Prince Consort Gardens and also think any new building should be sympathetic to its surroundings

Graham Savage (Weston super mare, 2021-08-19)

#775

Any development should be 'in keeping and sympathetic to the neighbouring buildings and surroundings. The proposed design is neither.

Kerry Burnett (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-08-20)

#782

A tower block will spoil the beautiful.view which is enjoyed by visitors and residents alike

Jaquelyn Ja es (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-08-20)

#784

Developments like this should be height restricted, no need to spoil view from the gardens

Helen Thomas (Weston super mare, 2021-08-20)

#788

This will block the Dorville House's view. It will effect our private rentals and holiday let. The best feature of the property is the view.

Elizabeth Attewell (Weston Super Mare, 2021-08-20)

#797

Birnbeck pier and the prince's consort gardens are a really important part of Weston-Super-Mare's heritage. As a local resident I believe it would be such a shame to allow a building of this size to dominate the area and detract from the assets that Weston already has, particularly when it is a development proposed by the very same owner who has allowed Birnbeck pier to fall into total disrepair. We need to value the historic areas we already have and show that Weston-Super-Mare can grow and develop sustainably.

Thea Barrett (WESTON-SUPER-MARE, 2021-08-20)

#800

A similar application involving a multi floor development exceeding the height of the original demolished building has been made before. Besides I was hoping the local council were going to compulsorily purchase the site. I suspect that CNM estates do not have the financial wherewithal to be able to develop anything of this scale. They have done nothing to advance this site in years
