Organic Fertilizer should not be moved from Country to Country.
The organisms desirable in that country could be harmful in our Country.
Let's develope our own organic fertilizer and slowly reduce the inorganic.
We will never be able to be fully organic.

Soil is the lifeblood. Why do we take a blind risk and introduce problems for generations to come? Our agricultural systems will be at a huge risk in terms of pests and diseases, weeds, alien invasive species, and much more...

Indika Herath (Gampaha, 2021-09-27)

#526

The phytopathogenic bacteria (Erwinia & certain Bacillus species) found in organic fertilizer samples and potentially other unidentified fungal/bacterial/viral pathogens can bring short-term detrimental effects to SL agriculture. More importantly, it is plausible that such invasive phytopathogens cause irreversible shifts in native microbiomes in SL agroecosystems. Further, such invasive species could become dominant in SL agricultural soils. As such, the application of any organic fertilizer imported from abroad pose a greater long-term risk to SL crop production and soil health. The best approach that SL should perceive is to go for a concurrent effort to gradually decrease the inorganic fertilizer imports/application while maximizing the inhouse production and utilization of high quality organic fertilizers. The reason behind this hasty development on the importation of organic fertilizer is more than obvious (shortage of dollar stocks more than anything). However, the proposed plan will only aggravate the SL agricultural sector and further the country's socio-economic burden at large.
