Skatepark for Saltburn

I think it’s an amazing idea. For such a wealthy town. Our children have the least! Our parks are rubbish! Given them a Stewart’s park or a Preston park.. watch the tourists come for that! It’s a no brainier really

This marries perfectly with the popular surf culture in Saltburn, further realising the town's potential as a cultural hotspot and attracting further tourism whilst promoting an active, healthy lifestyle. Growing a skate culture in Saltburn would also create further business opportunities for skate shops, clothing shops, cafe's and bars etc. Look at Santa Monica for an example of a town that successfully capitalised on the skating trend.

Aside from the boring fiscal positives, skating is also mega cool.

As a resident I feel this is needed. There is no outdoor activity areas available for teenagers. This would be an excellent investment to cater for the needs of Saltburn.

I have children who are very excited about the prospect of having a skate park. They have skateboards and scooters, they enjoy going on them most days. Saltburn needs something for their generation, there is nothing else for them. If the community doesn’t want children/teenagers hanging around, it has to offer alternative’s. This will give them physical and mental wellbeing.

Lynn White (SALTBURN-BY-THE-SEA, 2020-08-28)

Of the huge benefits skateboarding has for children and young people’s mental and physical health, social, emotional and physical development, it’s great fun and a vital facility for the area.

Kerry Powell (Newquay, 2020-08-29)

We tried this when I was a teenager. I’m now 32 and there still is nowhere for teenagers to go and skate. Now the Rkade skatepark has had to shut it doors kids need somewhere to skate.

Shane Calvert (Redcar, 2020-08-29)

#476

The closest skate park even worth visiting nearby is Preston Park skatepark, while a great park its too much of a trip for youths to be expected to make just to participate in their hobby. Adults from miles around travel to skate at Preston Park skatepark, bringing money to the area, a skatepark in Saltburn could do just that bring money into the area and bring back the area as a tourist attraction

Petee Connell (Redcar, 2020-08-29)

Kids in this area so need something like this it would be amazing

It's high time we had a skatepark in Saltburn! Especially now that Rkade has closed its doors! Skateboarding promotes and encourages a healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally!

#497

It's a great idea

Martin Coleman (Wimborne, 2020-08-30)

#498

I’m 30 now and still skateboard. I went to countless council meetings as a teenager to try get a skate park built in Marske which never happened whilst ‘less privileged’ areas around us got them built even though know one asked for them. Don’t make the kids suffer for being from a slightly nice area up north. Especially now RKade has gone!

Adam Watson (Marske-by-the-sea, 2020-08-30)

#499

It's a great idea to build a skatepark!!

Helen Khan (Saltburn, 2020-09-01)

#521

There is a huge north south divide when it comes to skate facilities. Let’s narrow the gap and give theNE skaters/BMXers/Scooters/inline the facilities they need to shine. Also It’s a great support for the solid surf scenes that the NE surf communities have worked to develop over the past 4 decades. Build it and they will come.

James Adsms (Tynemouth, 2020-09-01)

#526

The kids of Saltburn need a dedicated space..all resources, funding and public spaces are currently directed at tourists and this balance needs to be redressed so the children of Saltburn have a place to call their own.

Stel Coombe (Saltburn, 2020-09-02)

#527

Skating and related sports can have the power to get kids excercising who are not engaged by team sports and being positive for their mental health.

Children and teens need something for entertainment in saltburn. This will also keep them fit. They won't have to hang around shop fronts or roads, they can have something to focus on. Might even encourage some to try skating for the first time.

Clare Hansford (Saltburn, 2020-09-03)

Children need something to keep them active there is little for them to do or hang out

Andrew Barry (Saltburn, 2020-09-03)

#535

As a born and bread saltburner. I always envied cities/towns which had skateparks as an avid skater. I think having a skatepark would benefit the youth Today because it would give them a safe ground to skate/scooter/blade without being moaned at by residents. It is also encouraging exercise which is a must!

Matthew Jackson (Saltburn, 2020-09-03)

Anne Watson (Marske, 2020-09-09)

#584

There should be more facilities available for the current and future generations of action sports enthusiasts. With the rising popularity of skateboarding, scootering and BMXing this would be a good investment for Saltburn as the mentioned enthusiasts of action sports will travel to Saltburn, use facilities and purchase goods from local stores and feed back in to the local economy.

William Hirst (Barnsley, 2020-09-13)
