Not being able to relax and enjoy a cigarette causes stress and stress brings down the immune system.
This ban is very unfair to us smokers

People are buying cigarettes anyway and is paying a lot of money on the black market. Banning of cigarettes opens the door to illegal smuggling, just as alcohol.

#4829

I am a smoker and I don't wish to be a criminal. Government needs the funds. Are those that are against the sale of cigarettes prepared to carry the load when government puts its paw out for more taxes?

Althea Riddick (Boksburg , 2020-04-30)

#4830

My wife and I smoke. If ban not lifted it will prove Racism , enrichment of blacks who are being overlooked when they trade in so called banned substance. Very soon they will ban sex too. No Mr . President. You made a statement twice and you were over ruled. How come. Are you NOT in charge or whay?????

Chris Coucourakis (Boughton Pietermaritzburg, 2020-04-30)

Because I want to buy sigarette at normal price

Riaan Prinsloo (Pretoria , 2020-04-30)

I don't smoke but I truely believe that this is not fair to tell the smokers they can buy their smokes and then just take it away.... bacause you have a hidden agenda.... and it's not fair to try to control someones personal decisions....

Carla Britz (Robertson, 2020-04-30)

#4881

This ban doesnt benefit the country. Citizens are already stressed out, losing their jobs and their minds, now you're turning them into criminals because they want to sit quietly on their own having a smoke. All these so-called health experts should shut up cos ANYTHING can kill you (being hit by a bus or struck by lightning), we are human and have FREE WILL!! DONT DICTATE, DONT TELL ME HOW TO LIVE MY LIFE OR TREAT MY OWN BODY- MIND YOUR BUSINESS AND SELL TOBACCO AGAIN.

Chrystelle Hendricks (Rembrandt park, 2020-04-30)

#4883

Cigarettes must be sold

Carlos Pestana (Valhalla , 2020-04-30)

#4885

I need to smoke

Marais Viljoen (Pretoria North, 2020-04-30)

#4888

The goverment is giving money to the blackmarket. They would be able to get tax money which they could use for food parcels for example. How can you believe in them if this happens? Going against their word. Shouldn't someone be arrest for spreading fake news etc about the corona virus? As I myself and other people I know received a sms about fake news. With this not lifting the ban blackmarket on smokes will be smiling and our government is walking backwards as they just give the tax money they could have had to the blackmarket for free!!!

Erika Bates (Kempton Park , 2020-05-01)

#4889

I think its unfair against smokers

Rudie Erasmus (Strand , 2020-05-01)

#4891

I’m signing because it’s my personal choice to smoke!! No other Countries in the world are bullying there people like this, even with thousands of cases more than SA!! The worst of all is that it caused the President to go back on his word breaking the crucial trust that is needed to get through this pandemic!😢

Marike Bosman (Cape Town, 2020-05-01)

#4895

It is not an illegal substance and it goes against my human rights to take that privelage away from me

I have democratic rights which have been taken away..

Lex Townsend (Centurion, 2020-05-01)

#4897

It's simply bull shit and sheer spiteful Ms Zuma

Anton Walkinshaw (Johamnesburg, 2020-05-01)

#4904

Lizette Pansegrouw (Witbank , 2020-05-01)

Renette Neethling (Gauteng, 2020-05-01)

#4921

Banning cigarette sales on the basis of 2000 comments is not on.

The country is losing much needed revenue.

Smokers should be allowed to buy and smoke cigarettes and not be forced to stop.

People are still going to look for cigarettes... Traveling further and with the cited price of black market prices people are going to be sharing a lot more cigarettes.. All of the above increases exposure risks.... So the ban makes no sense

Anm Van Eck (Kempton Park , 2020-05-01)

#4922

It an unfair ban the rest of the world is allowing sale of tabacco.

Gerhard Janse van Rensburg (Germiston, 2020-05-01)

#4923

I completely understand your logic with alcohol but now you infringing on our rights. Forcing struggling parents to buy fake cigarettes off R60 that can be used for food because you don't realize that smoking is an addiction weer can't just stop overnight

Nathlee Petersen (Cape Town, 2020-05-01)

#4924

As a smoker and psychology student who is running low on cigarettes I am realizing that my free will, in whether or not I want to quit smoking is being taken away from me, which is causing a change in my characteristic traits, not necessarily for the good due to external circumstance.

Yolandi Mare (Pretoria, 2020-05-01)

#4926

What I do in my own home is my choice. The government is overreaching their authority. Government has also lost credibility.

Deborah Lewis (Johannesburg , 2020-05-01)

Not fair to lift ban then ban again a few days later

Grant Hill (Portshepstone, 2020-05-01)

#4943

Everyone will just go to black market.

Ashleigh Caddick (Cape town, 2020-05-01)

#4944

I support the lifting of ban on sale of cigarettes. This is nonsensical. The President says this today, six days later the Minister says the opposite. Who is fooling who? Asifunikwazi, just let us smoke. It's our right. We chose to smoke, so what? Corona? Mos, I smoke in my yard, obeying the lockdown regulations. What more do you want from us?

Joe Madborne (Roodepoort, 2020-05-01)

#4948

The President is overruled by a simple minister and therefore shows he has no backbone. Shame on you Mr President.

Gerayshan Ratchee (Durban, 2020-05-01)

#4958

The minister cant overrule the president. I do not want to buy illegal cigarettes but if I have to I will

I'm afraid of the effect non smoking will have on my wife if she does not get her cigarettes, she may become violent and attack me. The may get depressed then I'm sitting with a depressed wife as well as one that's negative all the time. Please allow the sale of cigarettes.

Jos Delange (Port Elizabeth, 2020-05-01)

Erna Van Niekerk (Germiston , 2020-05-01)

#4970

I'm signing because we are the only country in the world that has this ban. You can't force an addicted person to stop, learn from history and what happened in America during the ban of alcohol.

Coenraad Van der Merwe (Pinetown, 2020-05-01)

#4971

Why should government decide if we can smoke or not. Its a choice for every adult to make for themselves. Not for them to dictate to us.

#4974

I am a smoker

Chantel Small (Pretoria, 2020-05-01)

Santie Nel (Bellville, 2020-05-01)

#4987

By lifting the ban as promised , more people can go back to work and start earning a living i dont smoke yet i agree that smoking brings calm over a smoker if we want to assist in bringing down crime start selling tobaco legally at and semi affordable price people know buy tobaco at a dip off price 1 packet is sold to the same value as 1 carton

1 packet smokes and a bread and tin of food R30
Prior to.lock down

Currently 1 packet of smokes R50

No bread no tin of food plus an additional 20 bucks

Willem Van de reese (Boksburg, 2020-05-01)

#4989

Because it's completely not a fair decision to ban the cigarette sale as it is part of my essential goods. One can buy his/her pack and smoke it at home not sharing with anyone. Banning cigarettes also have a huge negative effect on the economy.

Thando Ngxabazi (Johannesburg, 2020-05-01)

#4990

This feels like we are back in the days of apartheid where you were prevented from doing things the rest of the free world does. Where is the democracy when we are told to be under curfew from 8-5? We were told our children need to stay at home but we weren't even allowed to buy them any kind of entertainment because it wasn't deemed to be essential. We can't go to work, but prevention on what we can or can't purchase means we cannot even fix a few things at home while we are in isolation.
Then we hear we will be able to buy tobacco only for the government to go back on their word a few days later... it feels like a dictatorship! This is not what we voted for.

Allan Aranes (Cape Town, 2020-05-01)

#4993

Liezel Hewartson (Sandton, 2020-05-01)

#4999

The reasons sighted by Government for banning tobacco product sales makes no sense, and is ridiculous reasons for spreading the virus. It only feeds the illicit trade in these products where greedy lawbreakers make money.
