I sadly know many with cancer including my niece and my daughters friend. To drive around Auckland and see the tower light up feels like its just for them, and helps even those the supporters feel that people care.

Child cancer needs recognition!!

Hayley Maree (Auckland, 2023-09-09)

#209

This is a massive problem with so many children suffering so why can’t Sky Tower acknowledge this by being a beacon of hope!! What is the reason behind them not wanting to do it this year? Boycott the place!!

I have a hero who battled acute lymphoblastic leukaemia when he was 4. Thanking God that he is in full remission. My grandson sent a favourite toy up to the top of Sky Tower when a delegation from Wellington climbed up there. After seeing photographs of Sky Tower golden it is this year possible for me to see it in person as previously I was watching from afar in South Africa. Now I am in Auckland and I was looking forward to being able to see this in person.

How hard can it be for Sky Tower to change the colour.
Not as hard as what it is for the children suffering from Childhood Cancer.

I'm signing because we need more childhood cancer awareness!! We spent 7 years in and out of starship hospital sometimes months at a time looking out at the sky tower. Devastatingly our son passed away this year 💔 and a few of his friends he had met on this journey. Glowing gold would mean so much , please reconsider.

Rachael Murfitt (Taupo, 2023-09-11)

My daughter has battled cancer. The kids sit up in the hospital on level 7 and look at the sky tower everyday. It would make them so proud. It's also important to keep raising awareness to support the charities and funding that aid this most deserving cause.

The sky tower should honor those who have fought & are currently fighting cancer in honor of cancer awareness month. It would be so special for the children spending endless nights looking towards the sky tower to see it lit gold 🌟 ✨️

Kayla Morgan (Auckland, 2023-09-12)

#288

🌟 Let's take a moment to acknowledge the incredible strength and bravery our children display each and every day. They fight battles that often go unnoticed, just like how breast cancer and other cancers are publicly recognised. It deeply saddens me that these amazing kids are not given the recognition they truly deserve, going gold for them. 🎗️💛 Our children, battling cancer, should be honored and celebrated in a way that they can see and feel the support surrounding them. Imagine the joy it would bring to their hearts if the tower was lit up bright, visible from the child cancer ward at Starship Hospital! Let's come together to shine a light on their resilience, proving to them that they are never alone in this fight. 💪✨

My son is a patient of ward 27a, and had a direct view of the skytower when receiving his chemotherapy treatment. ONE day of lighting the tower to show support for our tamariki who look out their window each day to see the sky tower is a small ask to make so many children smile.

My daughter was diagnosed back in 2013 with very high risk leukaemia and endured 27 months of intense treatment. The oncology ward, level 7 has incredible views but lonely folk, often looking out over the city of lights watching the world pass us by, seeing the sky tower lit up is that beacon of hope and to know you are not alone.

My grand-daughter aged 3 years passed away from childhood cancer! Light up the Skytower in gold to honour the children!!! Surely it’s not that hard!!

Megan Cardwell (Auckland, 2023-09-16)

#321

I’m singing this petition to turn the sky tower gold for ONE day in support of childhood cancer this month. The children in starship receiving treatment have a direct view of the tower from the confines of their room, and if they can change the color for other events like sports etc then surely one day to show aroha to our youngest and most vulnerable children isn't a big ask!

lucy russek (auckland, 2023-09-16)

#322

I think that this is something that children battling as horrible a disease as cancer would be able to look forward to and enjoy but now sky city is not giving them a chance, these kids and their families end up spending some much time stuck in hospitals etc. and don’t get to look forward to much as they aren’t able to do much. It also gives families a chance to be supported and raise awareness as well as families who have lost family members to cancer to raise awareness and honor their loss just has I have lost family members myself. I think that it is a nice acknowledgment for sky city to be able to do for these child for absolutely battle the hell out of their illnesses for their lives and have their childhoods or whole lives for the unlucky ones fill of being so sick, hospital trips non-stop and terrible treatments.

Ella Lee (Hamilton, 2023-09-16)

#323

Sky tower should light up the sky tower gold for one night for all the children fighting cancer and To raise awareness for this horrible disease.

#334

Me and my family plus many many more support the childhood cancer foundation, ccf, and others as our son tyler who will be turning 11 year's old in oct was diagnosed with ostosocoma a form of bone cancer and secondary cancer on his lungs aswell10 sept 2021 (a month before his 9th birthday) and had his leg amputated on 6 dec 2021 and the first or second night we were admitted up to the cancer ward we could see the sky tower right out our window and it was lite up beautiful bright gold!! It is something more than a tower with colours, its hope and gives the kids and families something to hold onto, think about and gives them hope and also a distraction! I feel its important to maintain the standard and importance of what thw gold means!!

Kelly Hill (Napier, 2023-09-20)

#336

I spent 3.5 years looking out over the Sky Tower from Starship when my son was having treatment for Leukaemia. He was 2 years old when diagnosed and it provided such a distraction to him looking at it especially when it was lit in colour. I would spend many hours in the middle of the lonely nights staring at it wondering what the future would bring us. Cancer is the leading cause of death in children here in NZ.....why would you not light it gold for that reason - to remember the ones who won the fight, the ones who lost the fight and the ones still fighting!!
