The men from our City of Monroe who fought in the war also helped to grow our local and state economy. Many men died in the war, or were injured most grievously. Those who lived pressed forward, with the love of their Walton County home in their hearts. Henry Dickerson McDaniel is an example of such a man, and his leadership is an example, even after his death. The Georgia railroad exists because of his ingenuity and resilience, and we were blessed to have him as the Governor of our great State.

We must move past the racial injustice of the past by saving African American cultural heritage, not by tearing down all heritage. Education and communication are vital.

Elizabeth Jones (Monroe, 2020-06-28)
