Ocad students deserves a grad ex which they’ve worked 4+ years for

Seung Hwa Koo (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#218

The health and safety of our peers at OCAD is a priority. As well, we should work to still hold Grad Ex as it’s one of the biggest employment/portfolio opportunities for our graduating students!

Em Ratkovsky (Niagara On The Lake, 2020-03-13)

#221

i'm signing because I am deeply concerned for the health our ocadus students and faculty

We're young, but parents and grandparents aren't. Help us protect those immunocompromised by temporarily closing OCADU and reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19. Why are we still open? This is just dangerous.

Anek M (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

I feel as though the cancelation of GradX was a hasty decision that was pushed out to attempt to quell the unrest students at OCAD are facing. The fact that this even has been canceled, an event that most graduating students depend on to launch their career, has been canceled and yet the classes that do not end for another month continue to run does not sit right. I am from the Seattle area where the first COVID-19 deaths in the US have occurred. All of the local universities, colleges, and numerous public and private schools have been shut down for the next month or so. Canadian schools have been shut down, and yet Canadian Universities have decided it is not in their best interest to do so themselves. I understand that this is a difficult decision and I would never want to be in the position of calling shots like this, but when the people want change, it needs to be taken more seriously. This virus has the power to, and already has, change people’s lives for the worse. Universities should be setting the example, the golden standard if you will, of policies going into this global crisis. Please consider the health, both physical and mental, of both your students and the populace.

Linnea Davis (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

School should not be open when there is such a threat to our health about. Members of my family are immunocompromised and ME going to school means THEYRE in danger. Stop classes. And for God's sake postpone gradex because this school's graduates DESERVE that show and have worked insanely hard for this opportunity and event. Be smart, OCADU.

Dob H (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#229

Stop the spread for covid 19

Nicole Geddes (Milton, 2020-03-13)

#232

I have to commute to OCAD and it's by far the scariest thing right now, going on transit with people who I have no idea where they've been or what they've been touching. I am scared, I don't want to get sick.... It's the last thing I need right now

Veronica Stanski (Brampton, 2020-03-13)

#233

get me outta here

seiji williams (toronto, 2020-03-13)

#237

I want school to close. It aint safe outside

Jari Mallillin (Newmarket, 2020-03-13)

#240

I’m signing because I am a graduating student at OCAD who looked forward to displaying my work at GradEx

Meg Robson (Brampton, 2020-03-13)

#245

Don't feel like dying 😂

Jelani Thompson (Brampton, 2020-03-13)

#249

It's a right of a student to get their degree show, even if delayed.

Ed Faulds (Glasgow, 2020-03-13)

#255

I feel screwed over

Malik Dieleman (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#256

I’ve worked 5 years towards grad ex and don’t want to see that go to waste

Lee Bleakney (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#258

I fear for my health

Tristan Turigan (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#259

Student safety matters

Catherine Som (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#260

OCAD’s priorities clearly do not lie with the students who have worked SO hard for this opportunity. It’s an irrational decision to entirely CANCEL this event, while continuing classes and requiring students to come in to the studio to work.

Kat Franch (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#268

I am a student at OCAD with family members I do not wish to put at risk of contracting the virus

Khira Mcfadden (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#269

Our health is important and being forced to come to school is ridiculous. On top of that many students work at school and interact with equipment making it a higher risk as both a student and employee

Rand Habbal (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#274

I don’t want to get sick at school

Nathan Prankard (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#279

Because this is very important to my niece, Megan Moore who is an OCADU student.

Krista Asfaly (Saint Paul, 2020-03-13)

#282

I'm signing as a recent alumni who knows that Gradex is an incredibly important opportunity for students to network and be introduced to the art world. It's what students work towards -- and a big reason people stay at OCAD.

Skylar Dunk (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#284

I don’t want to get sick

Nour Abdulhussain (Scarborough, 2020-03-13)

#289

the health and wellbeing of students should be priority

Yvonne Doan (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#292

postpoing gradex is the fair move to graduate students as opposed to outright cancelling it.

Parvathy Nair (Richmondhill, 2020-03-13)

#295

I have been working tirelessly for the last 4 years for the opportunity to show my work in my first exhibition, and now it has all gone to waste. Cancelling GradEx before even considering cancelling class continues to show OCAD’s ignorance of their student’s success.

Andrew Wu (Scarborough, 2020-03-13)

#296

GradEx is cancelled and so are my dreams, but I still have to commute here in a literal petri dish of germs.

Carly Bruce (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#299

Because I didn’t work my ass off for 5 years and pay thousands of dollars while constantly being told that GRADEX is such a big important event to look forward to only to have it cancelled.

Megan Moore (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#300

I'm signing this because I feel this event is important for OCADU graduates and instead of being cancelled it should be postponed to a time when it is safer for staff and students to attend.

Casey N. (Minneapolis, 2020-03-13)

#305

Because OCADU should not be able to put their students who live in toronto and commute to catch this sickness that is dangerously going around. They should cancel all classes and move them to online.

Melany Zepeda (Newmarket, 2020-03-13)

#306

It is confusing that OCAD cancels gradEX which in 2 month but still keeping the classes running. The confirmed number of Covid 19 is going up everyday, and as a Chinese international student I know how fast this virus can spread. Students or faculty might carry virus without showing any symptoms in the first 14 days and causing outbreaks in the campus. I’m afraid that canceling event that happens in 2 months won’t stop the virus from spreading since now.

Rui Fu (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#310

I’m signing because I have two older parents at home that are being put at risk by me having to commute to the heart of Toronto for school in the middle of this pandemic. I should not have to choose between mine and my family’s safety and health and my grades.

Amber-Lynn Thomas (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#312

I’m signing because this has been something I have looked forward to doing even before I applied to OCAD. This event is a huge booster in morale and helps in connecting students with opportunities that we expend money, energy and our entire year of thesis to be able to have. I have already spent much time, money and put in much thought towards my display for these 40,000 people, only to have it be cancelled.

Cailin Doherty (Scarborough, 2020-03-13)

#316

GradEx is the culminating opportunity for students at OCADU. It is unfair that these students have pair tuition and are being denied this opportunity. The event can be postponed or other arrangements can be made, it is completely unfair to totally cancel the event. Your students have worked hard for this.

Francis Tomkins (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#323

I understand the percautions, but postpone the event. Not cancel!

Melissa Moore (Zimmerman, 2020-03-13)

#327

many of my loved ones attend ocad, which is supposed to be an understanding and loving community. if my school in a city with only 2 cases can close, this one shod indefinitely close. ciao :)

teaghen brown (pickering, 2020-03-13)

#341

I’m a student at OCADU. I am very disappointed and dissatisfied with their decisions and hope they reconsider.

Madison Pound (Pickering, 2020-03-13)

#342

For the safety of students and staff as majority commute to school and interact with other commuters.

Angel C (Markham, 2020-03-13)

#347

THIS IS THE ONLY CHANCE I GET TO SHOW MY WORK WHICH IS THE CULMINATION OF MY ENTIRE DEGREE

Alex Gruspier (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#349

As a person who chose to leave OCAD I can say it was an overwhelming time for me. I am incredibly proud of all these students who made it to the end, and worked so hard for this. It is unfair to completely rip that opportunity from them. They deserve the chance to share their art.

Abby Adjekum (Hamilton, 2020-03-13)

#351

I am signing because I would really like to exhibit my thesis work at GRADEX this year.

Yi Ming Li (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#354

Grad-Ex is what all of us have been working towards and can be a big opportunity for us to start our careers after school, I understand the virus is serious but flat out canceling the event instead of postponing it isn't fair to all of us who have been working hard for the past 6 months.

Areg Savchenko (Toroonto, 2020-03-13)

#359

The school should NOT BE OPEN RIGHT NOW. This is a danger to everyone. Other schools have taken the leap and shut down in person classes. OCAD, get your head on straight and stop risking people's health. GRADEX should be postponed. People work their whole student careers at ocad for this event. How dare you cancel it right now. Fix this.

Ania M (Kitchener, 2020-03-13)

#361

So far our country has taken extremely diligent measures that have successfully kept us in a low-threat mode, and closing down schools temporarily until the current COVID-19 cases improve is essential right now

Katie Zechner (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#366

I am a graduating student, suffering directly from cancelling gradex. The amount of money I’ve already invested in this makes it’s cancellation unacceptable.

Madeleine LeBlanc (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#369

The school is cancelling an event that is 2 months away but doing nothing right now, further instilling fear into students. Not to mention students work for 4 years to have the experience of GradEx, not some pathetic make up. Cancel classes and re evaluate but the current course of action is insane. I excpect better from my school but at this point I dont know why. It makes me doubt the school I attend.

Natalie Murray (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#370

I've been working on my thesis for this exhibition and now it's just cancelled? Kind of ridiculous

Adam Joaquin (Richmond Hill, 2020-03-13)

#371

I’m in thesis and I’ve been in this school for 4 years thinking that I would graduate with grad ex as an opportunity. It is just cruel and unnecessary for the school to not just cancel it and not postpone!!!!!

Jasmine Herrera-Morales (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#372

My niece is graduating from OCAD this year. She has worked extremely hard, invested a lot of time and money into this, and deserves to show off her talents in a meaningful way. A postponement would be understandable, but to completely cancel this event is devastating to these students.

Shannon Hetrick (COLLEGEVILLE, 2020-03-13)

#373

I am signing this petition because my life feels threatened, as well as the health of my family members and friends.

Jin Hong (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#376

Gradex is the most important event of the year, and is what I have been working towards and anticipating for five years. It's ridiculous and disrespectful to simply announce that it's cancelled with no warning and no consultation with students. As it is more than a month and a half away, there's no way to know what the situation will be on the day of.

Annaliisa McConville (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#379

Showing my support for my friends who were affected by this cancellation

Paige Kleven (Pease, 2020-03-13)

#380

This is incredible important.

Annette Nedilenka (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#383

We need to put the health and welfare of students before the reputation of the school.

Liam Curran (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#385

We’ve seen the measures that Italy has taken because of the immense pressure it has put on the medical system. If we continue business as casual without taking the right preventative measures, we are risking the spread of the virus to vulnerable populations that are less likely to recover COVID-19 on their own.

Claire Wu (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#392

Close the school and postpone gradex. We deserve our dues. This is insane.

Jamie Cassier (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#394

I care about what happens to my fellow classmates. Faculty should care about its students.

Ania Mrugacz (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#395

I am signing this because I feel like this is something that students work hard for and toward. A lot of money and time is invested. I would like to see this POSTPONED and not cancelled!
