CPT Brackenfell Stop Densification
This affects everyone living in Cape Town! The City of Cape Town has auctioned 8 single residential properties in Protea Heights (Brackenfell) to a developer, who is now applying for rezoning, to erect 64 double storey flats overlooking the adjacent single residential properties, with open balconies with braais. (Properties are situated on the corner of Bracken & Vergenoeg street). The City of Cape Town tried to rezone these properties in 2012 to group housing of 25 units and the community successfully opposed the rezoning and the subcouncil refused the application and deemed that the rezoning application was unethical (officially minuted in meetings). We couldn't believe that a rezoning application was being entertained again in 2023 and the community raised funds & objected again with the assistance of expert town and regional planners. The objections were ignored and the community appealed the decision. We had an interview meeting with the appeal panel, where 3 representitives from the community addressed them on 14 September 2023. The next step is that they will send a proposal Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, who will make the final decision. We want to reach more than 5 000 signatures, to show the mayor that there is major resistance twoards this proposal. If you feel as strongly as us about this, then please answer Y (Yes) to the question 'Will affect my next vote (Y/N)', which means that in the next election you wil rather vote for an independent ward counselor, or a Non DA counselor, if the DA approves this rezoning application.
Please note: Please click on verification link that will be sent via email, only verified emails will be counted as signatures and be visible to us.
