I'm signing because i am not in agreement with this charge since no proper consultation with residents was completed prior to implementation and i am under debt review and cannot afford to pay an additional fees since i am already drowning in debt.

What COJ and City Power through its incompetent executive has resolved. Their decision is irrational and against the poor and unemployed people, which will results in worse poverty and izinjokanyoka. I bought electricity for R500 yesterday but only R304 with 129 units and it says R130 is for surcharge and I'm asking myself what is happening with R70? Actually this is nonsensical it must be stopped with immediate effect. This means City Power will be R200 000 000 000 richer out of R200 per recharge from 1000 houses alone. What rubbish is this while municipality is not a profit driven organization

Bafana Zungu (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

Boaratwa Leshope (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

#1655

I find it unreasonable to be paying so much and recieving so little. As working class individuals it is becoming almost immposible to now make ends neet with all these increasing tarrifs

Khadeejah Kajee (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

#1659

This is just another form of robbing us. When my electricity prepaid meter was installed I paid for it. There’s no reason for CP to charge a monthly fee now.

Maria Sampaio (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

#1660

Paying the R200 monthly fee is unjust, I am currently unemployed and already just getting by

#1686

Most households are just managing to keep their heads above water, now we have to budget for not just the tarrif increases but extra charges. So one of two things can happen, people can't afford it and will steal and some just won't pay.

We pay tax & still have to pay ridiculous amounts for services that our tax is supposed to cover?! Crooked politicians must be taken to task & made to pay back all that they stole so we don't have to pay all these unnecessary monies like they tried with E-Toll!

Rafia Malik (Lenasia, 2024-07-03)

#1720

I’m signing because, there’s corruption

Noxolo Gumede (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

Celise Kelly (Jhb, 2024-07-03)

#1732

I signing this petition because I am so frustrated. We are struggling to make ends meet as it is, and now over and above this high increase we now have to pay a surcharge of R200. That is ridiculous! I was happy to move onto prepaid so that I didnt have to pay service fees. What service is COJ providing for prepaid??? Where is all our money going to? Why ahould we pay for the mismanagement of COJs funds???

Ntombifuthi Gumede (Roodepoort, 2024-07-03)

Of the impact that this is going to have on me as a middle income earner. The charge of R200 is way too much and it is becoming less and less possible for us to live.

Nandipha Ntloko (Roodepoort, 2024-07-03)

#1767

Everybody is struggling to survive especially if you unemployed like myself, this is an unnecessary expense to the consumer as the tariffs are extremely high already, electricity should be charged the same across the board.

#1768

The electriciy is too expensive

Joan Sema (Hamburg, 2024-07-03)

#1769

This change was done unilaterally and unfairly..does not make sense that only Jhb is prejudiced by these increases to cover the mismanagement of funding and corruption that takes place at eskom and city power

Ajay Naranjee (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

#1773

This electricity charge is making life difficult.
Why are we paying vat on basic services?

Zaheer Essop (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

#1774

I disagree with the monthly service fee. I am also tired of the corruption and the way our municipalities are run

Michelle Naude (Roodepoort, 2024-07-03)

#1778

Politicians steal bankrupt the coffers now need money and bill it to consumers so they cam rinse and repeat. Keep this up and not long people will get fedup and resort to destruction akin to what happened in Kenya, openly looting whilst simultaneously insulting consumers os disgusting.

Imtiaz Patel (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

#1779

Things are expensive already and cannot afford additional charges right now, especially not in winter

Thato Chauke (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

#1780

What is happening is very unfair we are already sending a lot of money on electricity. Why punish the very same people who are buying it or rather paying for it. We have people using free electricity when will that change. We can not be abused in this manner.

Bongiwe Dhlamini (Fleurhof, 2024-07-03)

#1781

1) 12.7% is too aggressive for an increase. How can one afford this with salary increases either at zero, or marginal below 4%. I can’t afford living in a property anymore.
2) There should be NO service sharge fee whatsoever. I changed to prepaid for the very reason to avoid the service fee charges and now it’s implemented on prepaid electricity. This is unreasonable and should be removed with immediate effect.

Reon Nel (Roodepoort, 2024-07-03)

#1782

#1797

I can't afford to pay a service fee of R200 every month yet the electric tarif went up. This is not acceptable. We are suffering and yet we are forced to pay more for electricity.

Kholwani Ncube (Johannesburg, 2024-07-03)

#1798
