Help Sowaar Bar Rezone

Sowaar Bar kicked off my music career in early 2023. As independent musicians, this has been a home for us to build our careers and communities. We need it back and running as soon as possible.

Mj Nel (Centurion, 2023-09-03)

#1207

We need venues to support SA live music!

Heinrich Strauss (Centurion, 2023-09-03)

#1209

Let live entertainment be! Sowaar has been nothing but a decent place with decent good people.

Michelle Swart (Pretoria , 2023-09-03)

It’s a great bar and I’d hate to see them unable to do what they have done so well for years

I believe Sowaar is one of the best and only places that still believes in live music

Hannes Prinsloo (Pretoria , 2023-09-03)

#1214

I'm signing because there are only a handful of venues in the entire country that offers what Sowaar offers. The music industry in South Africa are busy dying every year with places like Sowaar closing, it's sad to see this happening as this scene is very much part of South African culture.
And honestly all the places that were on that corner before Sowaar sucked and didn't bring feet at all. I know people that stay in Joburg South that have heard and came all the way for Sowaar bar and ultimately brings feet from far to that centre. You guys are great!

Jhani Scheepers (Pretoria, 2023-09-03)

#1215

We need more live venues to support south african artists not less!

Kim De Villiers (Pretoria , 2023-09-03)

Deon Jansen (Pretoria , 2023-09-03)

#1217

I am a musician in the local industry playing for December Streets and having had the pleasure of watching acts at this venue and playing at this venue. I wish not to see our industry take another knock and lose one of the last standing venues in Pretoria.

Matthew Tager (Cape town, 2023-09-03)

Just let them rezone, don't be old and boring.

#1237

I am passionate about the music industry, especially in South Africa. The artists often struggle with this economy and sometimes the only way for them to make money is to perform in bars and restaurants. It is also enjoyable as a customer to be able to visit a pub or restaurant and see some of my favourite artists perform.
It is an activity where you feel closer to the musical artists and you can invite friends or meet new people, thus this activity builds a stronger community.

Lara Geldenhuys (Gauteng, Pretoria, 2023-09-04)

I am a performer and this venue has brought lots of business to a struggling industry.

Tian Nienaber (Faerie Glen, 2023-09-04)

#1256

Sowaar was one of the biggest supporters of local music in Pretoria. By trying to force them out of business, a whole community of artists, staff and patrons suffer. And for what? So that the landlord and a few surrounding landowners can have their way? That's unjust. We need a solution for all.

Justin K (Pretoria, 2023-09-04)

#1259

Because bullying is wrong!

Charl Van den Berg (Pretoria, 2023-09-04)

#1261

I am an artist as well as an event coordinator and know how building owners scam the venues that rent from them. The people supposedly helping always choose the owner of the building side no matter what the agreement between tenant (venue owner) and building owner is.

We need this BS to stop!!

Greunen Parker (Pretoria , 2023-09-04)

#1264

I fully agree that landlords/police is taking advantage of small businesses. Instead of wasting time on this go catch real criminals.

Dani van der Horst (Johannesburg, 2023-09-04)

#1266

We need to keep the little guys working, in a country filled with unemployment, shutting down a place that employs people because of red tape seems counter intuitive. Let them entertain l, let them earn.

Elsu Gericke (Johannesburg , 2023-09-04)

#1267

Sowaar is a great venue, would hate to see it have to go

Marie Steinhobel (Dullstroom, 2023-09-04)

#1271

I think Sowaar is an added value to teu community. There isn’t another venue like it in the Pretoria area and for the music lovers and for the entertainment industry this is a necessity as we are losing the culture of live original music.

Pedro Barbosa (Pretoria , 2023-09-04)

#1272

Sowaar bar has been one of the best places to watch live music.
I believe if they rezone it we could still have a place to enjoy someone else’s passion for music.

I am signing due to the landlord knowing full well what the venue’s intentions were, they happily took rent every month and now that the shit has hit the fan they don’t want to accept responsibility.
Disgusting to say the least

I fully agree that this venue is a gem in the heart of the Pta and it's music scene, which is known to be one of the best in the country. With dwindling venues to play and a huge demand for live entertainment, this is obviously a great venture that would we'd all love to see going from strenght to strenght and uplifting the scene, community as well as the many patrons that visit the establishment. Laat dit juig!

Disgraceful actions towards a small business! Sowaar Bar is one of the only places in Pretoria that allow us to sing and dance and connect with one another through Live Performances. Completely unfair and above that, completely immoral.

Bullying is certainly in this day & age not something that must be allowed and/or tolerated.

If the contract stated that Sowaar bar are allowed to have live entertainment when signing the contract originally, then that should be honored.

The landlord should not only be liable for the fine received, but also for the rezoning cost and Sowaar bar's legal fees.

Alternatively, the landlord thould find Sowaar bar another space that they are happy with AND pay for any moving cost.

Let Sowaar bar operate as per the contract and STOP bullying them!!!

Judith Venter (Pretoria , 2023-09-05)

#1393

Sowaar is an amazing venue for live music. I myself am a musician and loved performing at their open mics.
