Violent crimes needs to be stopped. We must ask ourselves: Are we doing enough to protect our children? Is it acceptable for our youth to feel unsafe in the very places that are meant to serve them? The answer is a resounding no.Auckland Transport, as the custodians of our public transit system, has a moral and ethical responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers. It is time for them to step up and take action. We are calling on Auckland Transport to:
1. Implement immediate safety measures on all buses, including increased surveillance and security personnel.
2. Develop and enforce a zero-tolerance policy for violence and harassment on public transport.
3. Engage with the community to create a safer environment for our youth.

It is with a heavy heart that I reach out to you today, not just as a fellow Aucklander, but as a concerned member of our society, to bring to your attention a deeply troubling incident that has shaken us all. A teenager, one of our own, was viciously attacked on a public bus in our city. This is not just an isolated event; it is a stark reminder of the urgent need for action to ensure the safety of our young people who rely on Auckland transport daily.Daming Kan (Auckland, 2024-07-09)

In recent times, there has been a disturbing increase in hate crimes against the Chinese community. A tragic incident in New Zealand, where a young Chinese individual was brutally assaulted on public transportation, serves as a stark reminder of the prejudice that persists. This kind of violence is unacceptable and has no place in our society. We must come together to reject all forms of hate and discrimination. Every person, regardless of their ethnicity, deserves to feel safe and respected. Our differences should be celebrated, not condemned. It is through understanding and mutual respect that we can build a more inclusive and harmonious world.
Let us raise our voices against hatred and violence. Support initiatives like “Create laws that forbid dangerous weapons to be brought onto public transport” to ensure the safety of everyone in our community. Stand with us in promoting peace, unity, and respect for all. Together, we can make a difference and foster a society where everyone is treated with dignity and kindness.
