I grew up in Lidcombe in the early 70’s the then new home (after moving from Pratten park) of the Western Suburbs Magpies. I started playing rugby league aged 5 right up until I was 28, the majority of this time in what was then the Western suburbs junior league. I was lucky enough to play some junior reps for Wests and even luckier to win some premierships as a junior. I am a staunch wests magpies fan.
When the joint venture became reality, I embraced it whole heartedly and have done so to this day.
It’s time the board also do the same and stop playing power games and get on with the job of running what has the potential to be one of the games powerhouse Sydney based clubs.
I recently spent 3 years as a director of an ASX listed small business and understand all too well the toxic nature of directors who can’t see the woods for the trees and only want what is best for them, not the business.
It’s time the board of directors of the West Tigers is held to account and do the job there are no doubt being paid well to do.

Mergers are organisationally fraught with the conflicts that ensue when different Organisational Cultures are conjoined. What has been legally stitched together under the auspices of the NRL should be made to work; this is the framing and it appears to be the HBG that is attempting to undo the framing. Trouble st the club from the board makes Benji’s job far more difficult than it should be. He needs the rules of the merger game reaffirmed so that the dissidents either accept them or retire from the arena.

I think that transparency creates accountability. Right now we have good momentum and we can’t afford to be complacent because of the competitive nature of the nrl. If they aren’t prepared to be reviewed and accountable for their actions then I don’t think they are the best fit for the job. This wouldn’t be a problem if we had experienced success but it’s been so long without that you have to question everything.

The fact it has been over a year since the completion of an independent review into the governance of the weststigers was completed and HBG are still dragging their feet and not making the recommended changes is beyond a joke.
