Support our local "Comet Swimming Club". Demand they review their decision to give our local "Learn to swim programme" to an International company.

The struggle has been real tough on our local businesses in regards to events out of our control. Covid then flooding and most recently cyclone Gabrielle. Supporting local businesses should and must be our top priority regardless if the chosen organisation facilitates its lessons in Maori.
I'm positive comet has the means and resources to do so as well.
What are you thinking GDC for goodness sakes.

Melissa Brown (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

#605

GDC say support local all the time, here they are once again doing exactly the opposite! JUST ANOTHER FAILURE of our GDC

Scott Cranswick (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

#606

We should always support local. Isn't this what our council preaches, especially in hard times of late eg: Covid, Gabrielle when locals and business's are doing it tough we should be supporting eachother. This club has taught the majority of this districts children, its a personal affiliation for many. Maybe the rate payers should have had the vote!

Kelly Harris (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

#607

I want to support local and as a ratepayer disappointed with GDC and their decision. So sad for Comet Swimming who have taught our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to swim
I hope Gisborne gets behind Comet and gets this decision revoked.

Roberta Harris (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

I grew up on the coast and believe that Comets have always produced exceptional swimmers as well as provide a necessary service for tamariki on the coast regarding swimming and water safety.

TeAotaihi Kutia-Ngata (Whangarei, 2023-06-03)

#614

We must support our local comet that has taught all our children swimming for years and done an excellent job

Barbara Byrne (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

#616

It is ridiculous to tender a contract to an international training organization when you have some of the best swim trainers in the pacific, right here in Gizzy... proven for years!!!

Brandon Jeffs (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

#618

This decision is wrong and hurts the Gisborne community.

Wendy Cossgrove (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

#629

I fully endorse Comet Swim Club's tender application and commend their dedication to promoting local talent and fostering community growth for over 60 years. It is disappointing to see the Gisborne District Council favor an overseas applicant instead of supporting the invaluable contributions of our local organizations. To ensure future support for local applicants, the Gisborne District Council should implement a policy that prioritizes local organizations and their contributions to the community when considering tender applications.

Stanley Williams (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

#630

It's not the Gisborne way. We have always been about locals helping locals. Some organisation that has money but no idea of the community of people who have been behind the scenes on the ground running for over 6 decades. Understanding that Kiwa have already been granted more than enough money to rebuild (millions), why do they need a foreign organization to have the contract. This only profits that organization Kiwa pools and or the Council and doesn't have any profit for our community as locals.
Do better GDC.

Materoa Poi (Gisbirne, 2023-06-03)

#632

Comet has been here for us for the past 60 years, but obciously that means nothing.

Sammy Hughes (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

#634

This is a very poor decision. It's supposed to be a 'community facility' - and should be a "Gisborne facility' operated by Gisborne people FOR Gisborne people. !!!! That's why the Govt funded it so heavily!!! Council are obliged in my view on that basis to think again!!!

murray Robertson (Gisborne, 2023-06-03)

This is our local swimming club who have put our community first to teach and train our children. They are and have been doing a awesome job and the pricing is sufficient foe low income earners. They have worked and made reciprocal relationships with the community they have helped in low decimal schools like Elgin School who have so many children needing swimming lessons.
Please reconsider their proposal.

Teaching to swim should stay in our community and not handed over to an International company this is the problem with the govt n small district councils you either sell or hand over to outsiders from overseas who don’t even live in nz but control it from their country it’s so wrong we have kiwis who are just as passionate n committed to teach swimming at comet and the council has blatantly made a decision to hand over to outsiders ..

Karla Hogan (Gisborne, 2023-06-04)

#784

Comet has done a great job for over 65 years teaching kids to swim and should be able to continue this at the new Kiwa pool complex. Every person should have the opportunity to learn to swim, particularly in a low socioeconomic region that is known for it's beaches, and it shouldn't come down to how much profit is going to be made.
