It is a totally unnecessary surcharge, particularly for people who pre-pay for their electricity. If someone is buying R5K electricity a month R200 seems small but for pensioners who have very little funds, who only buy R500 electricity a month, R200 is exorbitant. People who pre-pay for their electricity should be given an incentive to carry on doing so.

Then to add insult to injury, the hike in the cost of electricity is nearly double the CPI. Totally and utterly unacceptable.
