Rates are going up

I am signing because the level of rates increases is out of control, is becoming very difficult for ratepayers to pay and is having a very detrimental in-house prices in our area evidenced by a recent report highlighting a 39% decline from the high.
Some houses on our market are for sale because of cost of ownership.

Graeme Talbot (Martinborough, 2024-11-07)

I want the rate increase capped at 3% or less

Jenny Horsley (Martinborough, 2024-11-07)

The rates are absolutely ridiculous and feels completely out of touch with the rest of the country. I feel the council are taking the absolute Mickey and taking advantage. Money spent on a water feature that can’t be used in summer when it’s most needed , yet available in winter is just silly. The world is feeling this strain of inflation, but to increase our rates again almist this hard time and have done for the past few years is a slap in the face. It results in lack of trust in our council. We need to fix this problem!!!!

My rates are too expensive for a pensioner

Margaret Fletcher (Featherston, 2024-11-07)

I need SWDC to adopt financial responsibility and proper planning and I cannot afford the increases we’ve seen over the past couple of years.

Matt Connelly (Martinborough, 2024-11-07)

#444

Rate inflations are already out of control

Jordan Sutherland (Martinborough, 2024-11-07)

#450

Because i want to one day buy a house but with rates like this it will be impossible

Fiona Beattie (Martinborough, 2024-11-07)

Our rates have gone up hugely in the last few years and it’s not sustainable.

Melissa Da Souza (Martinborough, 2024-11-08)

#469

The increases are too much and unsustainable.

James Waugh (Martinborough, 2024-11-08)

#471

I would like our rates capped. The increases in recent years have been very high and I don’t think the council are being fiscally responsible.

Sally Morison (Martinborough, 2024-11-08)

#476

I'm signing because I agree with the petition.

Lorraine (Lu) Little (Martinborough, 2024-11-10)

We pay rates for what? And to increase them and we get shit roads, pay to have to have our rubbish removed and we have to mow our berms. Ridiculous.

Peter Cummings (Martinborough, 2024-11-11)

#493

Because the rate increases have been phenomenal these last five years, makes one wonder if living here is worth it!

Anne Rightford (Greytown, 2024-11-11)

#495

Rates on a property we own have increased significantly for the 24-25 year

Susan Doesburg (Greytown, 2024-11-11)

#497

The rate increases are beyond being reasonable and realistic, Councillors not listening to the people

Sue Death (Featherston, 2024-11-12)

#498

Rates are putting a huge strain on households and net resetting

Derek Anderton (Morison Bush, 2024-11-12)

#507

The current rates increases are not sustainable and we require fiscal review and greater transparency

Grant PLUMBLEY (Martinborough, 2024-11-12)

#508

Rates continue to rise and the infrastructure isnt being sorted out. The leaks in the roads are unacceptable, time for the council to cut excess fat and get back to what they are there for.

Anna Schofer (Martinborough, 2024-11-12)

#513

I agree that the recent yearly rates increases can’t continue unchecked as they are unsustainable for the community.

Paul Leahy (Martinborough, 2024-11-12)

#523

Because in 10 years time a large chunk of the population won't be able to afford to live in martinborough

Matt Blaikie (Paraparaumu, 2024-11-13)

In 14 years as a ratepayer our rates have gone up by 300% . Our water still does not meet National Standards and our wastewater system is an ongoing and neglected problem which is stunting any hope of growth in the South Wairarapa

Clem Beck (Martinborough, 2024-11-13)

We have faced a 100% rates rise as we have a second dwelling on our property to house our whānau. My husband and I are both retired and this raise has put more financial hardship on us.

Elizabeth Love (Pirinoa, 2024-11-13)

#536

I couldn’t believe that our rates nearly doubled this year. Over and above what I would expect is reasonable.

Lauren Langford (Martinborough, 2024-11-13)

#538

The rate increases are ridiculous, especially for rural where almost no services are provided

Hayley Bartholomaeus (Martinborough, 2024-11-13)

#540

Year on year rates rises are getting out of hand and there seems to be no extra return for the extra money gathered.

Tim Bourne (Martinborough, 2024-11-13)

#541

It’s got unaffordable

Ana May Gudsell (Martinborough, 2024-11-13)

Council should be reviewing its internal operating expenses and working to a budget, just like the average household does.
The Reserve Bank has a target range for inflation of 1-3%. Perhaps a "target"of 3 % rather than a cap, but a least something to aim for. Otherwise where is the incentive to save money internally, and what is the criteria that "non essential" expense decisons are measured against?
I also think that the LTP/AP consultation questions have been poorly worded, or done so as to achieve a pre-determined outcome. They should be reviewed by an independant external party before finalising.

Chris Webley (Martinborough, 2024-11-13)

#548

I am dissatisfied with the massive rate increases over the past three years and cannot see what council has delivered in that time. This level of rates is unsustainable.
There is no clear statement of what will be done in 2025, 2026 or reporting to rate payers on what has been completed against planned activities.
The lack of a pedestrian footpath on Dublin Street from Sackville Street to Regent Street remains a Health and Safety concern and there is no plan for doing this work.

Michael Armour (Martinborough, 2024-11-14)

#550

I do not accept the rate raises are acceptable

Grant Kinnear (Martinborough, 2024-11-14)

#555

I am concerned about the financial hardship these excessive rate increases are causing the ratepayers of the South Wairarapa district.

Vicki Vines (Greytown, 2024-11-15)

#558

Rates are getting out of hand

Gordon tyer (martinborough, 2024-11-18)

#563

Council spending is out of control, and know one takes any care or responsibly.
