Even though Columbus is well known for its acceptance of the LGBTQ community. Seeing it it physically will act as a reminder that it’s a safe zone and acts somewhat of a celebration of how far we’ve gotten from having more of an open mind. It’s a reminder of what was once seemed insurmountable is now proving to be achievable. Hopefully it also encourages people still in the closet to come out and show them there’s nothing wrong with who they are

I believe this idea is fantastic! It is iconic and promotes safety for pedestrians in crosswalks. Major cities across the US have done this with great success. Local artists/designers can be commissioned to paint these crosswalks. This is not the first time the idea has been floated around COLUMBUS. The soon-to-be very walkable (minus all of the construction) Short North is prime for this type of functional public art. Let’s make it happen already!

With a lot of places still abandoned in the Short North (as far as can be seen on High Street anyway), rainbow sidewalks would be a lovely addition that would liven up the area. The archways are already gorgous, but a little color never hurt anyone. I love that this is a tribute and with so many members of the LGTB ect. community still falling victim to hate crimes within our fair city, I believe that this would help the city show us that they do (in fact) still care about us.
