The law makes no sense

Alan Edwards (Brackenfell , 2020-05-01)

#5002

Both cigarette and alcohol ban is realy silly if you want people to stay at home during this time give them what they want to stay at home this is just causing people to look all over and not be at home what does alcohol and cigerettes have to do with covid19 only in south africa our goverment makes silly desicions such at this ban no where else in the world goverment trying to contol people like we are small children this is very wrong i know Zuma was not as good but i can bet he would not have done this

Wayne Houston (Durban, 2020-05-01)

#5004

I don't smoke but know stopping people smoking can cause health problems and death.

william Johnson (Alberton, 2020-05-01)

#5005

We as smokers are victimised whilst the fiscus is suffering and illegal trading is blooming.

Marius Potgieter (PRETORIA, 2020-05-01)

Lots of Iligan smokes on the street we getting ripped off and my South Africa is losing and throwing away precious jobs

Junior Vd merwe (Durban, 2020-05-01)

#5012

We are grown ups not children and we cannot be treated like children. We have the right to smoke or not to smoke. Should be our decision. There is no proven evidence that proves that the covid-19 virus is more transmittable or deadly in smokers than non smokers. Total BS!!!!! How can the President lift the ban and a minister a couple of days later then override him? We need to All stand together against this draconian government!!!!!

Benice Stoltz (Pretoria, 2020-05-01)

#5014

How can 2000 people decide for 11 MILJOEN people and they are making me a crimanal now because i must buy illigal sigarettes .
FACT illigal sigarettes is three times the price of legal sigarettes.this the poor is wasting food money on expensive sigarettes because smokers is smokers.

Johan Van OUDTSHOORN (Bloemfontein, 2020-05-01)

#5015

I'm a social smoker, so I only smoke when I have a drink (which is obviously not happening during lockdown).

I just find it very concerning that our democratic right to decide on whether we want to smoke, drink or exercise at a time of day that suits us is being removed - how much power does the government have when it comes to making these choices on our behalf?

Monica Havemann (Cape Town, 2020-05-01)

#5016

It is outraged to think that the goverment think the sale of sigarettes contributes to covid 19 spread! All the smokers will now be encouraged to share their stock amongst each other. And by smoking you dont put your spitt on to the sigarette or how di they think one smoke??

Amanda Van staden (Germiston, 2020-05-01)

#5018

I’m being forced to buy illicit cigarettes at a rediculous cost.

Kyle Bowman (Durban, 2020-05-01)

#5019

South Africa is supposed to be ac democracy!

Leah-Anne Mathysen (Kimberley, 2020-05-01)

#5020

It will cause more people to get dick in search of cigarettes

Alta Booyens (Pretoria, 2020-05-01)

#5022

Banning cigarettes and alcohol is only what communist does to control the public.

Rodney Willcox (Rooibokkraal, 2020-05-01)

#5024

They are discrimanating agains our human rights.

Emile de Koker (Cape Town, 2020-05-01)

#5031

Quitting smoking now is not all of a sudden going to cure my lungs. In one sentence she says they banning it for our own good, for our health but in the next sentence she says every person must take responsibility for themselves, the government cannot take responsibility for every one. So let me take responsibility for myself, as long as I adhere to social distancing and staying home so not causing health risk to anyone else why can I not buy cigarettes. Ever consider the risk to the family members sharing a house for weeks and now months on end with a smoker that cannot smoke?

Clara Terblans (Alberton, 2020-05-01)

#5032

My husband is a smoker and I can see the effect of this ban have on him and smokers around me

Christene Niewenhuizen (Klerksdorp, 2020-05-01)

#5033

I am a smoker and feel you didn't take into consideration our needs but you allow people to walk their pets or jog or walk in the roads

Lauren Valentine (Zwelitsha, 2020-05-01)

#5038

I would like to smoke

Hannes Coetzer (Kempton Park, 2020-05-01)

#5041

This ban is nonsense.

Christiaan De Jager (Cape Town, 2020-05-01)

#5042

I am prepared to stay the rest of lockdown in a house full of smokers , getting violent because they are unable to buy smokes , or watch my closest friends or myself contract the virus because we have to share the cigarette or smoke other peoples stompies.

Sandra Muller (Bloemfontein, 2020-05-01)

#5043

It's my right to decide whether to smoke or not. We get told cigarettes will be available for sale from 1 May now Dlamini-Zuma changes the whole thing.... We the only country who has this stupid restriction / ban and for a minister to override a president, wow just wow......

Trisha Jolliffe - Minnie (Cape Town , 2020-05-01)

#5044

I'm SAfrican and think it's nonsense and bad for the economy.

Jaco Cilliers (Randburg, 2020-05-01)

#5045

I'm a smoker

Jeanette Dingle (Ashton, 2020-05-01)

#5046

I am a smoker and staying at home is alot harder when you cant buy sigs anywhere.. i am willing to drive around for hours just ti find my sigs it wouod be alot easier if i could buy a carton or two keep it at home and stay at home safe

Janika Everson (Cape town, 2020-05-01)

#5048

It is corrupt and unfair to keep crooks selling illegal cigarettes, why can't people smoke in their homes by themselves?

Jean Paul Kotze (Cape Town, 2020-05-01)

#5050

Lift the ban

Rafeeq Adams (Cape town, 2020-05-01)

#5052

It is unconstitutional & unfair & unlawful to reinstate the ban after the president has already announced the lifting of the ban. Costing the country millions everyday, and strengthens the illegal and black market traders foothold even further.

Greg du Plessis (Pretoria, 2020-05-01)

#5054

I am a smoker, and I feel that people who drink can make their own liquor from home but what about we who smoke. It is unfair that we are forced to quit smoking. People are turning to illegal ways to obtain cigarettes and to ban the sales on cigarettes does harm to our economy.

Rita Smuts (Bultfontein , 2020-05-01)

#5055

I’m a smoker and it’s my choice to smoke and don’t share it with anybody else so why are the government taking my rights away

Anton Schalkwyk (Richards Bay, 2020-05-01)

#5056

It’s plain ridiculous. We are not living in the times of prohibition. This is pure power wielding. I am sure obesity is also a precondition got covid and it certainly is a problem with regard to other medical conditions. Why are the obese people of which there are a lot and many in government too, not told to stop eating as much ???? Just totally ridiculous.

Heather Steppe (Johannesburg, 2020-05-02)

#5060

We are a democratic land and people have the right to smoke if they want to. We are not asking the government for money to buy our cigarettes. Please we are all grown ups and you must stop treating us like children. The last time i checked i was a person with human rights. We are not in a prison and cigarettes are not illegal like drugs are.

Magda Briel (kwa zulu natal, 2020-05-02)

#5062

This is total rubbish

Ryan Gerber (Pe, 2020-05-02)

#5064

I'm signing on behalf of my husband who gets depressed and stressed when not smoking. Which leads to other problems.

Juliana Le Roux Maritz (Bellville Cape Town, 2020-05-02)

#5065

It is ridiculous that we don't have the right to decide if we want to smoke or not.

Bonita Ramsaroop (Durban , 2020-05-02)

#5066

I am a smoker and because of my depression i rely on the nicotene to cope with that with my medication

Jan Cloete (Kuruman, 2020-05-02)

#5070

Nadine Visser (Cape town, 2020-05-02)

#5072

I think it is discrimination against smokers.

Gerda Steyn (Middelburg , 2020-05-02)

#5073

I believe it's my human right to make my own decisions whether or not I want to smoke or not.

Lizelle Smith (Mosselbaai , 2020-05-02)

#5074

I’m signing because the ban is a violation of my basic rights : CHOICE

Ulrike Schmidt (Johannesburg, 2020-05-02)

#5077

I am a smoker and I do not want to be smoking anything but my brand of cigarettes also because if I stop smoking it will make my body even more weak and more prone to contract the virus which I would not want.

Anjeliq Samuel (Cape Town , 2020-05-02)

#5078

I recently suffered from some trauma and was advised not to quit smoking until the situation resolves itself.

Samantha Saevitzon (Johannesburg , 2020-05-02)

#5086

I have been smoking for more than 36 years. Do no choose to stop.

Louise van der Watt (Gauteng , 2020-05-02)

#5089

Ban unfounded & ridiculous

eugene smith (roodepoort, 2020-05-02)

#5092

This ban i regard as unlawful because,it contradicts the presidential adress to the nation.

Robert Montie (Worcester , 2020-05-02)

#5093

I am a smoker and have a democratic right to freedom of choice.
This seems to be a corrupt decision. When someone overrides the Presidents decision.
Come on Mr President make right to your first decision.

Helena Van der Berg (Durban, 2020-05-02)

#5094

I am a smoker , want to stop illegal sell off cigarettes and to promote income for government.

Jacobus Francois Havenga (Ohrigstad, 2020-05-02)

#5096

It is unlawful and unconstitutional and the government is loosing millions of Ran that could be used to support people not earning now or hundreds of other good reasons to use the money now being lost on a daily basis R35 million PER DAY.

Belinda Du Plessis (Pretoria, 2020-05-02)

#5097

I value our personal liberty

Hazel Trittner (Randburg , 2020-05-02)

#5101

I have severe widrawal syndrome right. I cannot even associate with my family. And am now become very short tempered. Please Mr Government do not make me prefer old regime to yours

Obed Ngcobo (Durban, 2020-05-02)

#5103

I'm signing because it's so unfair to all smokers, as we speak the fake cigarettes businesses are booming. While the legitimate cigarettes sales is banned, the other fear is that these fake cigarettes contains foreign chemical that my cause more harm to the smokers.

Amos Dhlomo (Johannesburg, 2020-05-02)

#5104

I'm a non-smoker, but simply don't believe that we should be allowing our government to dictate to people about what they should and should not be doing in the privacy of their own homes. It's unconstitutional.

Lizette Versteegh ( Newcastle , 2020-05-02)

#5106

Withdrawal but stopping immediately causes high anxiety and illness....one has to have therapy to ween off smoking

Colleen Da Cruz (Hluhluwe, 2020-05-02)

#5107

1. SA desperately needs the revenue
2. There is no valid reason for the ban
3. This is political and has Nothing to do with protecting the well being of the population or preventing the spread of a virus

Fran Andersen (Cape Town, 2020-05-02)

#5109

I am signing this petition because NDZ is a beneficiary of the illicit cigarette trade which is extremely harmful and does not contribute towards our economy. I do not want to support this underground market. I want cigarettes to be on sell because of this and stress relief factors.

Sashin Tulsiram (Randburg, 2020-05-02)

#5110

The price of cigs have become ridiculous ever since its been banned, we have to pay almost a R1000 per carton

Craig Lance Hendricks (Cape Town, 2020-05-02)

#5112

Ban is nonsensical.
No treatment for withdrawal symptoms.
Sinister motive for ban. Who's getting rich from this.
Government lost my respect and support.
Government declaring war on its citizens.
Revolt is imminent.

Colin Mohan (Durban , 2020-05-02)

#5114

I'm signing this because. Unable to buy sigaretts is causing people to become irresponsible in behaviour. Causing lot of discomfort to those who are addicted. This can lead to the masses getting withdrawal symptoms and flooding the hospitals. Also the tax loss. Please lift the ban.

Marli Coetzee (Middelburg, 2020-05-02)

#5115

Yes its already a big stress for our loss of income, i would rather buy a packet of smokes and eat a piece of dry bread...dont take away whats already been there for a decade...you are only blowing up your own asses...let us buy our smokes...beacuase we WILL NOT stop buying on the black market...

Hermarie Wolhuter (Middelburg, 2020-05-02)

#5118

It is unreasonable, no proof that cigarettes lead to more covid-19 cases.

Benita Erasmus (KwaZulu-Natal , 2020-05-02)

#5120

I am currently suffering from withdrawal from smoking, I am eating 2-3 times as much because of it and I am constantly angry at every little thing. Anger and hunger are 2 of the most common withdrawal syptoms of nicotine withdrawal

Marcel Anke (Pretoria, 2020-05-02)

#5121

Im a smoker by choice. Its my choice and not anyone elses and I will damn well quit when i want to.

Charl Van der Merwe (Klerksdorp, 2020-05-03)

#5128

I don't think the ban is legal n know I have to go to extremes to buy the cigarettes at triple the price for now

Abram Khumalo (Pretoria , 2020-05-03)

#5130

I am a smoker and I do not understand the ban on sale of cigarettes and doesnt resort to violence. Smokers know that smoking helps with stress and anxiety. We smoke in the comfort of our own homes so we do not go out and have gatherings (as was said that we share a cigarette). I for 1 do not share with anyone.

Lerene Bouwers (Port Elizabeth, 2020-05-03)

#5134

Prohibiting tobacco can cause more harm than good. Withdrawals are dangerous for people with underlying issues and the elderly. Robberies and murders due to this ban.

Natasha Castillo (Cape Town, 2020-05-03)

#5135

Me and my husband are smokers for 35 years plus and we are still healthy.Even my dad is still smoking at his age.It have allways been legal to smoke.

Marie van Jaarsveld (Empangeni, 2020-05-03)

#5136

Banning the sale of cigarettes do not make sense. Smokers have been warned for years and we know, understand and accept the risks involved, and we still chose to do it so leave us and lift the ban.

Des Nair (Cape Town , 2020-05-03)

#5137

I am a smoker and I am not coping at all with withdrawals nd stress.. There is no scientific proof that smoking contributes to Covid19 nd no one has died of covid because of smoking.. SA is making their own rules. U can uplift d ban with strict controls, like no one must smoke in public and inside cars, if you are found u face the law.

Ruru Shubbey (Pretoria , 2020-05-03)

#5141

Stop crime

Roy Piovesan (Richards bay , 2020-05-03)

#5142

I don't smoke but the effects this will have on our economy is massive and SA will never recover so please bring back the sigarettes as soon as possible

Erenst Van Rooyen (Pretoria , 2020-05-03)

#5144

the country is loosing a lot of money, illicit traders are benefiting from the ban. The ministers justification was not convincing at all, world study have shown that the withdrawal are bad for people.

Ridwan Mia (Pretoria, 2020-05-03)

#5146

There is no logical reasoning behind the tobacco ban. The country is loosing millions in tax money due to this ban.

Monique Pietetse (Pretoria , 2020-05-03)

#5149

Not thinking of all people in South Africa costing more for some and have to support wrong market and not helping with covid 19 going into place likely to be affected

Andrea Van biljon (Gauteng , 2020-05-03)

#5151

I am on the frontline and i know with years of experience if people that has been smokers for 60yrs suddenly quit smoking there will be a tremendous overflow of admissions to hospitals. For this reason it would put even more strain on the pre hospital staff and already overflowing hospitals. Treatment for COPD patients is also now prohibited due to Covid protocols prehospitally.
To prevent this, the older folk should continue and decrease their own risks of being admitted to hospital where they stand a greater chance of being infected by Covid 19.

Candice Marks (Cape town, 2020-05-03)

#5154

I want the ban to be lifted

Ronel Jugoo (Cape town, 2020-05-03)

#5164

It's my human right to make my own choices and my health decisions are mine alone..

Jolene Schoeman (Port Elizabeth , 2020-05-03)

#5165

Banning cigarettes is taking away my right to choose for myself, filling pockets of illicit traders and taking money away from the country. This is forcing 11 Million smokers to become criminals!

Mark Crichton (Centurion, 2020-05-03)

#5166

Because it is my health and my choice which doesn't affect any other person

Andre Wolf (Cape Town, 2020-05-03)

#5168

Adults have the right of choice according to the Bill of Rights and I am lawfully allowed to make that constitutional and lawful choice which is my right and no one elses!

Adrian Hall (Cape Tien, 2020-05-03)

#5169

im a smoker

Walter Robinson (Alberton, 2020-05-03)

#5170

This is ludicrous. It is your ignoramuses making laws on your behalf, that you KNOW is not going to help your cause, or the country's economy in ANY way. Now grow a set, and ise the brains that you have in abundance, to rule and govern this country properly.

Thank you

Tania Herwill (Cape Town , 2020-05-03)

#5173

Ita the Wright thing to do

Carl Jacobd (Johannesburg, 2020-05-04)

#5177

I am a smoker i personally know what its like to go through the withdrawal symptoms so i had to purchase ciggarettes illegally.

Ernst Josephs (Cape Town , 2020-05-04)

#5182

I'm signing because a ban on cigarettes is causing big money loss to our economy and has opened the black market. People are being arrested because they are told to just stop smoking. If the government was seriously concerned about our health they would ban sugar which is the number one legal drug in the world. The government opens the streets to allow people to exercise and our numbers increased but we can't smoke in our own homes. The government is looking for an uprising and then it will be to late to fix it.

Melissa Du Plooy (Kwa Zulu Natal, 2020-05-04)

#5185

The fake smokes are killing me!

Trewinnard Van Kerkhof (0157, 2020-05-04)

#5186

I used to be a smoker myself and I know what it feels like to want a cigarette. To actually quit is a mind set one has to decide on for yourself, no one should be forced to quit like this.

Leonie Van Kraayenburg (Roodepoort, 2020-05-04)

#5190

I am a smoker and because of the ban of cigarettes I can't stay at home we are going from shop to shop and that's how we are going to get infected

Forcing people to stop smoking is dangerous. It's our human right to decide if we want to smoke or not.

Bea Bredenkamp (Pretoria, 2020-05-04)

#5199
