On a few occasions iv tried to get through to the surgery after hours/days of trying i finally got through but was unable to get face to face appointment, which lead to phoning the emergency number that went through to Aberdeen before it was passed to the surgery therefore my situation got worse my husband phoned the emergency line again got told to phone an ambulance to be told it wasn't an emergency and had to go through the surgery so on phoning them again both emergency line and usual line finally after many hours an ambulance was sent I was rushed into hospital resulting that i needed emergency surgery on my back and was told if i was left any longer due to my situation i could of been left paralysedJulie Benn (Aberdeenshire, 2025-02-02)

The system is terrible. And the waiting times can be extremely frustrating to then be cut off and have to start again. I have spent hrs on the phone waiting to get through. And sometimes hrs trying to get on the queue.darren ledingham (Oldmeldrum, 2025-02-02)

I’m disabled and have difficulty contacting the surgery due to the time waiting to get through. I have lost faith in the system and have ongoing issues which have been overlooked ie I should have had bloods redone but had nothing.Andrina Perry (Oldmeldrum, 2025-02-02)

As a teacher I cannot be on the phone during the day for an hour waiting to get through to either the appointments line or the results line. You can’t even transfer once you get results to make an appointment you then need to call and start the process again. During my lunch hour the phones are switched off, so I can’t call then. Results take weeks to be processed (eg an X-ray sent from hospital in 2 days wasn’t on their system for nearly a month). The current system is not working and is potentially dangerous.Barbara King (Barthol Chapel, Aberdeenshire, 2025-02-02)

Because it’s awful having to wait 45min for the phone to be answered by doctors reception and then you are cut off. Also to phone many many times to be told you are no 10 in the queue.Helen Hay (Oldmeldrum, 2025-02-02)

Because Oldmeldrum "and Fyvie" surgery is not fit for purpose. I officially say when asked that I do not have a GP.1. There is no GP in Fyvie. 2. Its impossible to get through on the phone to book appointment. 3. Receptionists are rude and inconsiderate. 4. No online booking form, no email contacts. So they literally don't exist, line never works and no other means of contact.
I moved to Fyvie in 2021 and since then it was nothing but frustations with them, on top of misinformation about GP in Fyvie. I met with SMP regarding them, she did nothing. Past few years they seem to being passed on from hands to hands but only getting worse with services.

I live in Oldmeldrum and am horrified to hear what has been going on in the surgery.Waiting times and unwillingness to give patients what they need and deserve just for them to save money is quite frankly disgusting.
The people of Oldmeldrum deserve better.

The surgery has gone downhill since covid, but even more so since the take over from Newburn. Even if you call as soon as the clock hits 8:30 it’s a lottery if you’ll make it into the 10 available spaces call queue. If you don’t….which is usually the case, then you will spend the next part of 2 hours trying to get into that available ‘10’ slot. Once in the queue it’s pretty much another hour before your call is even answered. They then take your issue and go and discuss it with the doctor who decides whether you are worthy of seeing or not. With the greatest of respect and I understand the staff know about confidentiality of patients….i don’t want to be discussing my personal issues with a receptionist first and foremost. Personal and mental health issues are difficult to discuss for a lot of people at the best of times and they may only just manage to pluck up the courage to call….to have to give the information to a faceless person who has no medical training, empathy or on occasion respect for what that individual patient is going through is not really acceptable. To not be able to book follow up appointments in advance (even though the doctor tells you to book it) is outrageous. If they know you need a follow up appointment in 2, 3, 4 weeks time then they should have the capacity to do so. Being told to call in the morning is ridiculous as (see above) you can’t get through. Also altering medication without seeing patients (my partner and myself have just experienced this) is alarming. How can they alter your medication without discussing your current health status. Feels like a rant but these are all valid points. Not everyone these days has access to a phone or internet, especially the vulnerable and elderly….why do you have to call to make an appointment. Surely popping into the surgery and booking one through the receptionist is the same as calling in.

Trying to get an appointment through the telephone system is so long once you get through you can get to see a nurse or doctor very quickly .. but the phone system is holding up this procedure .. if they decide a doctors appointment is not required and difference course of action is to be taken it almost like Chinese whispers making sure the message is picked up exactly and past on correctlyElaine penny Penny (Inverurie, 2025-02-08)

I completely agree with every person who has written a review. Like many others I have experienced excessive waiting times on the phone, been refused a F2F appointment and had problems obtaining repeat prescriptions. I bought a steroid cream from an online pharmacy as my husband was unable to get a repeat prescription. This is frustrating and annoying but I keep well. I fear for those who are really ill, the elderly or children. It’s hardly surprising A&E have patients turning up for treatment if they can’t get to see a doctor at their local GP surgery. There are just some things that need to be physically seen by a Dr and if things need to be followed up then this should be done, not forgotten about. Unfortunately the way things are with the appointment system patients will just ‘give up’.Lesley Smith (Inverurie, 2025-02-08)

Absolute shambled. 40 minutes to book an appointment after 3 day. While at my work!! Athsma review over the phone??! Joke! Worst I have ever seen it.Hazel Law (Fyvie, 2025-02-09)

To get an appointment you have to wait in a queue which can take in excess of 10 mins to get to a human on the last try cost me over £13 and then when I do get through I'm then told I have to hang up and call again fir another department. It's an absolute farce people are having to call this line if they are ill, this is adding undue stress to the individuals whom already have issues with their health, it's just not right!Ralph Givans (Inverurie, 2025-02-09)

Because we are all fed up of not getting a n appointment to see a doctor for days or even weeks before trying to get to speak with with someone if you become seriously ill.Gordon Neish (Fyvie, 2025-02-11)

I've attempted to use this doctor's practice twice since take over . Both times where shocking. Getting through by phone takes at least an hour. I had seriously contradictory advice given over the phone. Thank goodness I have knowledge of medical care, if I did not I could have done damage to myself. The practice has turned into a mess .Rachel white (Fyvie, 2025-02-12)

Because of the system of our practice when attempting to book an appointment with GP. The reduced times the appointment booking line is open. The length of time left on hold. I could go on….Wilma Thomson (Fyvie, 2025-02-12)
