Comments

#205

I'm signing because I have family members living in the Alsek Valley and do not wish this site and its s inhabitants to be put to risk.

Philippe Gewehr (Athus, 2024-11-19)

There are more appropriate places for this kind of activities. There should be an open consultation.

Elena Barroso Alcazar (Burwash Landing, 2024-11-19)

#220

This site is unsuitable for isolating contaminants from entering the environment given the consistently high winds and permeable ground conditions. The plans for intended waste, treatment processes, and containment measures should be openly shared with those potentially impacted and the broader communities that regularly use this area for cultural and recreational purposes.

David Meeker (Whitehorse, 2024-11-19)

I’m signing because our lives depend on maintaining the health of our rivers!

Urvil Patel (San Diego, 2024-11-19)

#231

I care about the environment, and would like to do everything in my power to help protect sensitive ecosystems.

Christopher Kime (Hayden, 2024-11-19)

This project requires further review and should be build in a different area given the high likelihood of effect on the biodiversity and water and soil contamination of the area so close to a world UNESCO world heritage site.

Melissa Harper (Calgary, 2024-11-19)

#245

I work in this area and strongly believe that it’s natural beauty and abundant ecosystems should be preserved and protected.

Claire Macmillan (Whitehorse, 2024-11-19)

#255

It is a shame to contaminate what little we have left of undisturbed area, especially the proximity to the river corridor. There are other more suitable areas for them.

Chelsey Unruh (Stettler, 2024-11-19)

I stand with the people, environment, and wildlife whose lives will be largely impacted by this irresponsible act.

I'm signing because any toxic enterprise/business upriver of great resources is not wise due to pollution factors. This needs to be discussed publicly.

Mary Murphy (Whitehorse, 2024-11-19)

#285

I place a HIGH value on protecting our natural resources, especially when this development puts so much risk to everything that lives close by - plant, animal, human, birds, fish, insects etc!!!

I live in the downtown core of Haines Junction and neighbouring parcels of land in the downtown are known to have contaminated soil in need of attention. I believe that a LTF is needed but not in the Alsek Valley. This past summer I was witness to a neighbouring soil contamination clean up project that began without the necessary development and environmental permits in place. Researchers and environmental experts are needed to advise and monitor so the best and safest method is used for the task at hand. Transparency is key so that everyone feels safe. I agree that we need a LTF so that we can be responsible caring stewards of the land and I also believe that we can obtain this by finding a more suitable location. This petition and its outcome may well be the precedent setter on how community leaders approach and address future land stewardship projects and concerns.

Lynn Iler (Haines Junction, 2024-11-20)

#295

I prioritize preservation over industry.

Robi Pochapin (Davis, 2024-11-20)

#302

We should preserve Alsek Valley

I've visited this area and seen the beautiful nature that is our heritage and right to protect, Canada's greatest gift is the nature and space it provides to house a plethora of species. I have family in this area, seeing their community be put in harms way due to careless planning is despicable.

Lynn Cleary (Toronto, 2024-11-20)

#310

Companies should be held responsible and put in the work when choosing something that will impact the environment so drastically.

Courtney Koebel (Bragg Creek, 2024-11-20)

#312

I have visited this beautiful and pristine part of Canada and it would be a shame to do as planned.

Erin Cleary (Oshawa, 2024-11-20)

#313

I've signed this petition because location of this proposed project is too close to existing natural habitats & park boundaries. Potential environmental damage from this proposed project is not worth the risk.

Nygren is a pristine community nestled in a valley with a known species at risk, in a designated Wilderness Protection area, adjacent to a World Heritage Site National Park, with a water flow into that Park and sister Parks in BC and Alaska. That is unique in Canada and the world.

CastleRock has an obligation as an agent of government to select a site that minimizes impact to the community and risk to community and the environment.
They have consistently refused to do that despite offers of assistance from the community.

At the public input meeting, the Daku center was full and spoke with one voice. CastleRock ignored that.

CastleRock leadership made promises at that meeting that the broke publicly within days.

They are refusing to do due diligence.

They have treated the residents with contempt.

Nygren residents have affirmed all through the process that we wish to see healing of the land.
However this insistence on a site that damages an entire community and a national treasure, when there are numerous suitable sites nearby, is madness.

Locating a soil decontamination plant close to town would not be advisable due to a high potential for environmental and health risks. These plants often handle hazardous materials, and their operations can lead to air, water, and soil pollution if not managed properly. Proximity to residential areas increases the likelihood of exposure to toxic substances, which could negatively impact public health, especially for vulnerable populations. Additionally, noise, heavy traffic, and the presence of industrial infrastructure could reduce the quality of life for local residents and pose safety concerns. It’s crucial to place these types of facilities at a safe distance from populated areas.

Jessica Spence (Haines Junction, 2024-11-21)

#322

I’m signing because I agree with the petition.

Valerie Drummond (Haines Junction, 2024-11-21)

#339

The environmental risks of contaminatuon this site seem high. Surely there is a more secure location that could be found if a proper search was done.

George McBirnie (Toronto, 2024-11-21)

#344

We need to protect what little untouched ecosystems we have left. Soon there will be no more.

Renee Roeder (San Juan Capistrano, 2024-11-21)

#346

Of all places to put this thing, why would it be in the most beautiful and pristine part of the Yukon??

Susan Grabner (Whitehorse, 2024-11-21)

#349

Although I don’t have a residence in the area of the proposed LTF, I would be opposed to its location near my property for similar reasons expressed by nearby residents, that is, the vulnerable ground water aquifer and the potential deleterious effects on their drinking water quality if the proposal is implemented.

Patrick Habiluk (Haines Highway Resident, 2024-11-22)

#360

I'm signing because I live right across the street from this proposed site. This LTF should not be on gravel in a highly windy area near fish-bearing water systems.

Janice Netherton (Haines Junction, 2024-11-22)

#361

I'm signing because destruction of natural places is not acceptable.

Rory Petrilli Rory Petrilli (Briancon, 2024-11-22)

I' m signing because I believe more in nature than in money.

Pascal Puig (Whitehorse, 2024-11-22)

This area needs to stay protected and in its natural state

Micah Nickerson (Pickering, 2024-11-22)

#372

As a visitor with a close connection to this valley, I understand the tragic implications of contaminating one of the few wild places left on this earth. It is unnecessary to contaminate an important wilderness and its surrounding community

Emily Russell (Golden, 2024-11-22)

#374

Shame to everyone who support this LTF project

Andre Therasse (On, 2024-11-22)

#375

Une gestion des déchets misérable et des solutions pour y remédier qui manque de bon sens dans le contexte actuel. Non, non et NON !

Leonce Bouchat (On, 2024-11-22)

#380

I am signing this petition as a frequent visitor to Haines Junction and the Alsek Valley, who has family members who live in the Alsek Valley, I am very concerned for their health and well being if the project goes ahead. I have supported the community of Haines Junction and the Alsek Valley with my tourist dollars and am concerned about the long term negative impact this project will have to this unique and vulnerable eco system and the residents who live there.

Judith Crow (Woodville, 2024-11-23)

#381

I am concerned about the impact that the Castle Rock proposed toxic land fill location will severely damage a world renowned area and endanger the people, including young children, who have made this area their home.

Glen Crow (Woodville, 2024-11-23)

#393

I was there last summer, live in this area and with the people. We most préserve Alsek valley free.

Daniel Lajeunesse (Laval, 2024-11-24)

#395

Projet complètement irresponsable, honte aux hommes politiques qui laissent faire.

Gérard Gewehr (Wissembourg, 2024-11-25)

#396

Il y a sûrement d'autres lieux qui sont mieux adapter pour finaliser se projet

Gabriele Kammerer (Wissembourg, 2024-11-25)

#398

I'm signing as I agree with the key issues listed, and in support of the residents of the Alsek Valley, Kluane National Park, all Yukon residents and visitors. I also agree the project should be halted until a suitable location for the LTF is established that prioritizes environmental safety, and community well-being.
