Im signing because this Ban is a form of psychological torture and inhumane to force people and their loved ones to deal with an addiction/dependancy In this matter in an already extremely stressful time. Doing this will not safe a smoker’s life as their lungs would already have damage. This criminalise also law abiding citizens for an addiction that the government was earning lots of tax from, and is a form of entrapment if it forces people to go look for cigarettes in an unlawful way, placing them in danger.

The Tobacco band simply does not make sense. Nobody who has smoked for several years will see any significant improvement of thier lungs or subsequent ability to better handle a Corona infection in only a month or two after quitting smoking. While there is massive medium and long term gains from quiting smoking, there is practically none in the short term. The tobacco ban has no short term benefits while massive Mental and Physical stress in the same short term.

- The banning of cigarettes is without thought of the negative impact immediate withdrawal can have on elevating social and domestic tensions.
- For some a box of 10 was a small weekly luxury for the elderly and many of the poorer community. The ban is unkind.
- Cigarette smoking can affect the health of the smoker, but causes no change in behaviour as alcohol can do. In fact it can calm the nerves of many. It does not harm others.
- Hundreds in rehab cope with a cigarette when withdrawing from harder drugs. This removal is of deep concern.
- SA has done a huge campaign on the dangers of sugar. Chocolate, however, is able to be purchased in large quantities as part of 'essential shopping.' Diabetes is one of the most vulnerable predispositions to contracting Covid-19, so this warrants an urgent explanation.
- Whilst heavy smokers might be compromised if they contract Covid-19, a month or more ban does not change the state of their lungs. The stress involved in withdrawal is immense.
