The dog was just protecting the home the intruder should not have been on the property

(Sunshine coast, 2017-09-12)

#2603

dogs have unconditional love for their owners and will do anything to protect them. The dog clearly knew something wasn't right and protected his family. I would hate to think with all the break ins Mackay council would put down an innocent dog for protecting its family home.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2604

The intruder needs to be charged. Leave the dog alone

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2605

This is just morally wrong in so many ways! The dog should not be put down because of human choices.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2610

The dog did its job if it was protecting its yard due to entry by an unauthorized person. The person should be arrested for trespassing. Stop taking peoples pets without proof. This is America and the burden of proof is on the accuser not the accused.

(Lake Charles LA, 2017-09-12)

#2614

Winston was only protecting his home & family. Not a thing wrong with that

(halfway creek, 2017-09-12)

#2615

This dog does not deserve to die because of this. The dog should be required to wear a coloured collar as they do in Melbourne.

(Melbourne, 2017-09-12)

#2618

A loving family pet should not be lost for someone else's crimes!

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2620

Apparently the INTRUDER is not to be on his area of ground so he would have been protecting his place of ground. Let that dog go home to do his job. Leave that dog alone you monster Council people.

(WOOMBYE, 2017-09-12)

#2623

If someone enters your yard uninvited, the dog is there to deter or stop them. Load of bullshit that the dog has been seized

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2625

This is unfair. The dog was protecting his property and his family. He did NOTHING wrong.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2626

Winston was protecting his family from somebody who should not have been on the property

(Bushland Beach, 2017-09-12)

#2627

The dog or owner did nothing wrong

(Walkerston, 2017-09-12)

#2628

This beautiful dog should be returned to his owners! He was protecting his owners on their own property!

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2635

The council is wrong in this instance. Winston was doing the job he was meant to. Thats to protect his family and property.

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2640

We /i have a right to protect my property by whatever means.we the ppl demand that the (mackay council)show cause for their actions. (Summarily euthanasia )of winston.i demand the amendment & proclamations that give mackay council, its employees the constitutional right to enter & take with the intention to euthanase an animal.mackay council is an entity with an a.b.n./a.c.n.a department of state & can sue & be sued....

(Melbourne, 2017-09-12)

#2642

Disgusting that a beautiful and loyal animal that was doing his job we might as well have a welcome mat there saying come and take what you please, They are there to protect us when we are sleeping at night this dog is a hero this council needs a major shakeup.

(Bundaberg, 2017-09-12)

#2645

Dog should not be punished for doing a great job protecting his family and belongings.
GOOD BOY WINSTON!
Intruder should go to jail. Obviously he confessed to entering property without permission.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2646

This is not right! He's a good dog!

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2647

An intruder has no rights when they ILLEGALLY enter your property. This dog was protecting HIS home and family. Pets are not objects they are FAMILY. I hope the intruder was charged with Break and enter.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2648

Winston was protecting his yard and family, I know my dogs would do the same thing xx.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2649

This is absolute madness. The dog was doing his job protecting his home from scum

(alice springs, 2017-09-12)

#2651

I'm signing because this is rediculous, free the dog he done nothing wrong. You trespass and have to deal with the consequences.

(Lismore, 2017-09-12)

#2652

If the person was on the property without permission then why would you kill the dog?

(Thorneside, 2017-09-12)

#2653

The person shouldn't have been in the yard to begin with.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2654

I find it absolutely disgraceful that blame is apportioned to the owner of a dog that is simply doing its duty of protecting the household, and yet nil blame is apportioned to the absolute degenerate entering the property unlawfully and committing trespass.

The decision maker in this situation is so far out of touch with community expectations and sentiment. Hopefully at the next local government election they will find themselves unemployed, or even better find themselves in the obituaries.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2655

This is outrageous - where is the proof - was he charged for being an intruder? Why is the dog the dog the criminal - it is obvious the person is the criminal and the dog has done the right thing in trying to protect the property if this is indeed what happened. Where is the proof?

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2657

This is a dog doing his job!! Loving the kids around him and protecting his family from his yard what an excellent dog!! To think it's even possible for this to happen when someone is breaking into the place in the middle of the night shame on you MRC!!

(Eimeo, 2017-09-12)

#2659

I'm signing because I think it is unfair to just take a dog with out the proper proof to validate their claims. Council need to be more open minded and ask why was the guy on a private property. Must be someone family in the council.

(caloundra, 2017-09-12)

#2660

I find what the council has done unreasonable the dog has only done its job by protecting its yard.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2661

Give winston back....

(Dalby 4405, 2017-09-12)

#2669

The dog has protected his family from an intruder so he done his job

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2670

I believe this dog was following its instincts and protecting his family and doesnt deserve to put down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make me mad that they even put this dog on death row

(Wandal, 2017-09-12)

#2671

Ever one should feel safe in their own home , When some one uninvited and unknown to you enters your property in the middle of the night i sure there not there for a greet and meet , That person should have no rights the dog was doing what any person or animal would do protect its home and family

(Pioneerbay, 2017-09-12)

#2681

This is horrible someone enters a yard in the middle of the night obviously up to no good and the dog bites them it's there fault dog is doing its job will the council protect this family if the dog is put down and the mongrel comes back to rob them

(Kawana, 2017-09-12)

#2682

It's wrong to put down a dog that was doing its job - protecting his family. Too often it's the innocent that get punished. Jail or fine the criminal who was in the wrong in the first place!

(Stanthorpe, 2017-09-12)

#2684

HE SHOULD NOT BE PUT DOWN FOR PROTECTING HIS HOME

(Broadford, 2017-09-12)

#2689

He was doing his job guarding his family.

(Childers, 2017-09-12)

#2692

Winston should not be put down for protecting HIS property and his family.

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2693

An injustice has been done to the dog and family. It's just so easy now to dispose of the incident and the problem will go away. That seems to be the case of how we live now

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2695

This is absolutely absurd. The dog was protecting it's home and family. What was the intruder doing there in the first place? Free Winston!!!

(Melbourne, 2017-09-12)

#2696

I think its a shame that a dog is being punished because he was doing his job and looking after his home. If the person wasnt on yhe property without permission. Then there would be no issue. Let winston go home and look after jis family.

(Adelaide, 2017-09-12)

#2697

As far as I understand it there is no proof that the INTRUDER did not provoke or strike the dog. Surely this dog is entitled to safeguard his family in his own property

(Gold Coast, 2017-09-12)

#2698

The application of a law requires absolute proof. This doesn’t hold water.

(Kuranda, 2017-09-12)

#2700

It is disgraceful that this is even allowed to happen.. fair enough if there was proof that the dog was vicious, it was know to bite people. But when there is someone breaking the law and entering your property without proof then you really need to stop and ask yourself who the law is really protecting! Dogs are bought as deterrents for theives, among other reasons.. insurers even discount policies if you have a dog on your property over a certain size due to this reason. MRC you are disgusting if you let this happen! You should be prosecuting the intruder!

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2702

Wrong decision

(Moranbah, 2017-09-12)

#2703

a dog and owner should not be punished for someone entering their own yard!

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2705

This dog was doing its job of protecting the owner, on private property

(Moranbah, 2017-09-12)

#2707

The dog doesn't deserve to be put down protecting the house that someone was ILLEGALLY breaking into. This dog should be praised and givem a bone, not be given a needle for doing what its meant to be doing.

(Rockhampton, 2017-09-12)

#2709

Im signing because this isnt justice its stupidity. If someone breaks into someones home, you cant call victim when a pet is protecting their home and family.
Let the dog live, he didnt do anything wrong in this situation.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2713

******* outrageous. A dog that is where it belongs, bites a potential robber. Intruder deserves a bullet, not the dog.

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2719

A dog should have the the right to protect his property

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2721

Dog was being a family member. Looking after its family.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2724

The dog was secured on his own property protecting his home and humans.
The seizure of this animal is uncalled for and should not have happened without physical evidence.

(Campwin Beach, 2017-09-12)

#2726

I'm signing because this it unfair, inhuman and just plain ridiculous. Staffy's are loving beautiful dogs that would never ever hurt someone only if they felt threatened! I'm sorry but biting an intruder isn't a valid reason for this disgusting act to be taken. Winston did what any other dog and human for that fact would do. If someone broke into my house my staff would possibly do the same thing and I know I'd sure as hell do everything I could to stop them.
Rant over!

SAVE WINSTON

(Violet Town, 2017-09-12)

#2728

This dog should never have been seized or the owner fined forban illegal entry of its backyard. Ridiculous. What is this happened to a Councillors house?

(Melbourne, 2017-09-12)

#2733

Because this is so wrong. The dog was just protecting his family.

(Beaconsfield, 2017-09-12)

#2736

Im a dog lover and couldn't imagine having to go through this with my own dog, needs to be more protection for animals, after all our dogs just try to protect us.

(Darwin, 2017-09-12)

#2737

The poor dog should not be put down for doing his job and protecting his property and owner!

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2741

this dog was defending his home and should not be put down.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2751

Dogs should not be put down for doing their job. This is an abomination to our rights as well as the dogs. We should be allowed to protect our properties!!

(Sth Bingera, 2017-09-12)

#2752

The dog was in his yard behind a closed gate when this person has without invitation opened the gate perhaps to break the law and he was bitten by the dog. Not savaged just bitten and now the dog is to be destroyed. This is so wrong. The person shouldn't have been there and the dog was protecting his home.

(South Grafton, 2017-09-12)

#2753

It's ridiculous that a family dog is being put down because he was protecting his home and his family from an intruder. It's disgraceful.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2754

A dog shouldn't be killed because it's protecting its yard
Everyone knows if there's a dog in a yard and the dog doesn't know you don't go in there

(Toowoomba, 2017-09-12)

#2755

Dog was just protecting his family's property

(Homehill, 2017-09-12)

#2757

This family pet was protecting his family. If the pet owner happen to find this unknown person on his property before Winston did and used actions to protect his family, the pet owner wouldn't face the death panalty. Why should Winston?
Surely even the person who has made this complaint can see that this family pet was only protecting those he loves.
The dog lives there, this supposed 'jogger' doesn't. If this 1 person is the only person in the entire region that is afraid of Winston then why don't they 'jog' in a different street? Instead of ordering the murder of this member of this family!

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2761

It's not right to put the dog down when he is doing his job and a good one at that.

(Mount Isa, 2017-09-12)

#2763

I believe the Mackay City Council need to let this dog go home. If the intruder left Winston in his yard he would not have been bitten. The intruder had no reason to be snooping around the peoples cars parked in their yard. Dog will naturally protect their family and their home.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2766

It's just plain wrong that a dog defending it's home & owners can be destroyed for doing it's job ! The person that chose to enter a property uninvited should be held accountable for there own actions!!! Let this beautiful & brave furbaby go home . SHAME ON YOU MACKEY COUNCIL.

(Emerald, 2017-09-12)

#2767

In this instance Winston was doing his job! Protecting his family. This would be a huge blunder by the Macau council.

(Emerald, 2017-09-12)

#2768

Not fair at all!!!!!

(Yandina, 2017-09-12)

#2776

A dog shouldnt be ounished for protecting his family from intruders.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2777

This is bullshit. Put down for doing his job. If its on private property council shouldnt get involed. Person should deal with the consequence and also be done for trespassing.

(lennox head, 2017-09-12)

#2780

Because the person bitten was trespassing

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2781

Im signing this because it is about time we were able to protect ourselves and stand up for whats right and wrong. I had this happen me and my children while I was a single mum, a man came into our yard while my baby was outside and the dog bit him on the leg, he rang the police the police said they would shoot the dog in front of us if I didn't surrender him, broke our hearts. this should never happen to a family. these dogs know their jobs and that is why families usually have a dog as a friend and a protector. Wake up Australia stand up and be heard

(tenterfield, 2017-09-12)

#2782

This is wrong, all dogs are protective of there owners and property, just not all of them have had some scumbag jump their fence

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2784

it is unfair to punish anyone, animal or human, for protecting their home from intruders.

(townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2787

Intruders who get bitten should not get the right to charge the dog who was protecting his family

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2788

This is rubbish!! The poor dog is only protecting its property! Serves the guy right for entering someone else's property!

(Ayr, 2017-09-12)

#2789

The dog did nothing wrong he was protecting his property & family from bad people.

(Moranbah, 2017-09-12)

#2798

The dog was only protecting his property the intruder shouldnt of been there.

(Blackall, 2017-09-12)

#2800

Was the intruder charged, this is a total disgrace. The intruder was in this families property and the dog was protecting its family. What did the intruder do to the dog to cause the dog to bite. Fined and they don't have to provide proof, surely this can't happen. Get a lawyer and fight it. Disgusting.

(Wodonga, 2017-09-12)
