Road closure in Calton Avenue and surrounding streets

Since 2015 traffic on Calton Avenue has increased by 83% at morning peak and by 58% at 6pm-7pm.

Our air quality is at dangerous levels.

The road is often grid-locked leading to reduced safety and quality of life for residents.

Only removing the through traffic will resolve these issues so the Calton Avenue Residents Association are calling on the Council to take serious action.

We call on the Council to implement a permeable road closure (allowing access by pedestrians and cyclists only) at one end of Calton Avenue and pushing the traffic on to the main thoroughfares.

In order to prevent simply displacing this traffic to neighbouring streets a co-ordinated scheme of road closures should also be considered.
