Honor Puerto Rico's Constitution and the right of our citizens

Honorable judges and members of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, District of Boston Massuchetts;

We, the people of Puerto Rico call upon the Federal Court to respect our Constitution. We ask for Article 68 of our Civil Code, which states the term matrimony to be between a man and a woman, to be honored. 

 

As well as some states have decided in favor of this matter and others against it via plebiscites, we the citizens of Puerto Rico also have the right to hold a proper referendum regarding this issue. A decision of this magnitude cannot be made over the feelings and opinions of a few, we all have the right to express and decide upon this matter. This concerns all of our citizens and we all have the right to voice our opinions and be heard.

 

 

Honorables jueces y miembros de la Corte de Apelaciones de Primer Circuito, Distrito de Boston Massachusetts;

Nosotros, los ciudadanos de Puerto Rico imploramos a la Corte Federal que nuestra constitución sea respetada. Pedimos que el Artículo 68 de nuestro Código Civil, el cual establece que el término del matrimonio sea entre un hombre y una mujer, sea honrado.

 

Según algunos estados han decidido a favor de este asunto y otros en contra vía plebiscitos, nosotros los ciudadanos de Puerto Rico tenemos el derecho de llevar a cabo un referéndum en torno a este tema. Una decisión de esta magnitud no puede hacerse en base al sentir y pensamiento de unos pocos, todos tenemos el derecho de expresarnos y decidir sobre esto. Es un asunto que nos concierne a todos y como tal todos tenemos el derecho de expresar nuestras opiniones y que sean escuchadas.
