I'm all for saving the trees but that costs money. Money from either - Delta, the landowner, council, Trusts or the public or some mixture of the above. So if it costs $15,000 a year to maintain them, then to preserve them for the next ten years would cost $150,000. So who is responsible for paying that? It is going to cost something to cut down the trees and clean up the verge, so funds from that can go directly into any future pool.

Is that a Council/Delta/Landowner/Public consortium who fund the ongoing maintenance and seek funding to save them? What are the costs to underground the lines, and where do they need to be installed to miss out fencing, trees and future tree roots, and avoid future easement allowances for services and potential widening of the road?

Who's putting up their hand to lead this thing, and be the voice for the trees that the Wakatipu want to save?
