Demand a Negotiation on Fuel Prices

In 2012, a £27 million project run by the housing association in conjunction with Scottish Gas, Scottish & Southern Energy and Vital Energi was launched with two clear aims:

1 - to increase energy efficiency in the area

2 - to address fuel poverty in the area

This project installed a district heating system within The Wyndford which was more energy efficient than the predecessing electric storage heating system and was estimated to bring fuel costs down by 25% for the community's residents.

Now, ten years later, fuel poverty looms large once more. With the fuel price rise capped at an astonishing 54%, we are being asked to pay for bills that we simply cannot afford, an issue shared by millions up and down the nation.

Our community has a unique opportunity to negotiate with Wheatley Homes and OVO Energy, who currently run the district energy facility, because it is communally operated and can therefore be collectively addressed.

This community demands a meeting with Wheatley Homes and OVO to negotiate the fuel cost rises and prevent The Wyndford from plunging into a heat or eat crisis situation. We call on the housing association and energy provider to honour the aims of its 2012 project to keep our energy efficient and lower in cost.
