Changing Places toilets should be mandatory
Thousands of people need Changing Places toilets that would help them to enjoy the day to day activities many of us take for granted. Every one has the right to go to the toilet, however this right is not being given to those with a disability. They need Changing Places toilets with enough space and the right equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist.
Take a moment to picture yourself in a wheelchair or infact your loved one or friend, the need to go the toilet is something unavoidable, you go the toilet surposedly designed for disability use. Except without the proper equipment this person will have to be changed on the floor in a dirty toilet? I have a sister who has this problem, her right to go to the toilet has been taken away restricting her ability to go out and visit many places. The Equality act 2010
states those with a disability have the right to access goods, services and
facilities. It also states providers are obligated to make changes to buildings
to accommodate those with a disability, this is not happening. Changing places
are still few and unknown. This is wrong, it is time to pass law to make it
illegal to build any toilets without also building a changing place, all public
toilets should have a changing places toilet nearby. Equality is being written
but not practiced all buildings and restraints should be fined or prosecuted for not
complying with equality legislation.
Please sign this petition if you would like law to ensure changing places are incorporated into public places and failure to do so should result in penalty untill changing places are built.
Once enough signatures are collected the hope is to send them to the Prime Minister with our request and ensure all public toilets by law must also have a changing place. This would enable everyone to be given the same rights and considerations.
